Now that my car is back on the road I can get to the fun stuff, so I figured I'd make a thread to show it off. She looked so pretty after work today that I just had to stop and grab a few pictures.
This was my first car. It was for sale just around the corner from my house. The back windows were blown out, the headliner was falling down, and it looked like someone was hauling hay in the back seat. But I could tell that it was a special car. It's a zero option car, other than the v8 engine, exactly how I would have ordered it from the factory. It's even white, one of my favorite colors for any car, but especially on fox bodies. But the best part is that there is absolutely no rust anywhere, which is unheard of for these cars and even more amazing considering it's in Minnesota. Since then I've slowly been restoring and upgrading it. Last summer there was an issue with the flexplate and the engine had to be pulled anyways, which was a perfect opportunity to put something a little more fun back in it's place. Which brings me up to today. the chassis is pretty much the same, but thunderbirds are longer and the body and interior are completely different. basically all the benefits of a mustang, but more room, more stable handling and better aerodynamics. plus better looks, IMO.

You don't really see them around here anymore either. I only know of a few other ones in my area, and mine's the only one that's driveable. Most people I talk to about it have no idea what it is. That's another reason I love it, it's fun keeping a dying breed alive and on the road.

The original headlights were really yellow and faded, so a few years ago my dad tracked down some nos headlights (nobody makes them anymore and they're really hard to find) and ever since then, they made the marker lights look even worse in comparison. So I finally decided to refinish them. first I sanded them with 500 grit sandpaper to remove all the yellowed plastic, then 800, 1000, and 3000 to remove the scratches and smooth the newly exposed plastic. Then I followed up with some buffing compound and wax. The difference is amazing. It doesn't show up very well in pictures, but in person it's so much more clear and glossy. People might actually be able to see my turn signals now (IMG:style_emoticons/default/toothygrin.gif)
the results: before: (IMG:http://i.imgur.com/T5hMmz6.jpg) after: (IMG:http://i.imgur.com/MqxoHqi.jpg) not bad for some spare time and elbow grease This post has been edited by whitefox: Jun 14 2014, 08:47 PM |
