The fast 4 cylinder engine on a production car.
Not the potential specs if modded, but the specs off of the production line
I was thinking like the RS200 or something.
I'm just curious

No, it’s not some exotic niche supercar but a humble Dodge that holds the record for the “The Fastest Four Cylinder Production Car On The Planet.” The car was run by Salt Lake City’s Jorgen Moller, who pushed the heavily modified Dodge SRT-4 to a top speed of 222.416mph (357.934km/h). However for the official record the lesser figure of 221mph (355.66 km/) was used because the average of the two best runs are used in such records.

403bhp, 155mph top speed (Limited), 0-60 in under 4 seconds, it's a UK only model apparently. I don't know of any more powerful stock 4 cylinders that are in production and on sale today.

Lotus Exige gt3 is a 1.8L supercharged 4 banger. Makes something like 270 hp. So it's not as powerful, but it's just as quick as that evo. It's got a sub 4 second 0-60. (Different sources put it around 3.8-3.9) And it's top speed is 160mph (electronically limited)
_Kevin_
May 13 2011, 02:34 AM
yea I was thinking the accel was primary and top speed was secondary
are Caterhams 4 cylinders? I know those are quick as all get out
Ben.H
May 13 2011, 02:56 AM
The Caterham R500 is still a 1.8l I4 I think, it's 'only' got 230bhp but it's probably the quickest car here to 60
Helmasaur King
May 13 2011, 03:10 AM

May 13 2011, 03:23 AM
Ey i dont get what it means by 'limited top speed'...
Isnt every engine pretty much 'limited'?? what exactly does it mean
Edit: i just read earlier post 'electronically limited' Whats the point in that?
Ben.H
May 13 2011, 03:29 AM
Well I know in Germany there's a law most performance cars have to be limited to 155mph, possibly for some other countries.
_Kevin_
May 13 2011, 03:29 AM
some engines come with a limiter in them that restricts power output. I think safety is why they started doing it. some cars are capable of running in 130-150 range but they get restricted down 100ish. every engine has it's "limit" but a limiter restricts the engine output
at least I think. maybe Jred or Ben could give you a better answer
