DO NOT DO A WIRE TUCK! Unless there is some way to do it without snipping the wires, just leave it as is, thats terribly dangerous unless you are really comfortable and know what you are doing.

Anyways, easy mods to start with: a performance panel filter, performance springs, wheels.

I guess it depends on how comfortable you are with electrical. To me, cutting wires and rewiring are no problem.

I suppose if you have experience with it, its not so bad. But most people don't and just start cutting s**t to look clean.

So, what am I saying? Well without trying to be patronizing gut the lot, then I'd say go for stickier tyres. I think you'll be hard pressed to find one that looks as good as the one in the original post for that kind of money, so f**k the bodywork, it'll no doubt pick some battle scars up anyway. Just make sure the mechanicals are sweet. But anyway, stripping the car should be mainly free so let's theoretically say it costs £0

Some decent 'fast road' tyres, let's say, Toyo T1Rs would be around £350 a set

Then I'd say get some good lowering springs, a strut brace and anti roll bars, these would probably be around £600 all in

I'd probably upgrade the brakes at this point, unfortunately I don't think the Almera GTi has a great deal of aftermarket support, but I found a set of 4 grooved brake discs on eBay for about £150. So...

£1900 left

This is the fun bit, power, with this much money you could probably do a home-made forced induction conversion or just buy an SR20DET and fit that.

Of course it all depends on how much access you have to tools and facilities, and how much experience you've got. Once again sorry to sound patronizing if I do but this is probably one of the ideas I like most on PCA, you got Facebook?

Surprisingly, a lot of cars share brake designs and sizes. Did you know corvette calipers are a direct swap on to my car? I don't think brakes would be an issue to find.

That's true, as a matter of fact I'm fairly certain the brakes from the Pulsar GTi-R would be a direct fit and other Nissan models of that time. Problem is, they are at the end of the day road brakes and after a few laps on track they'll fade like Blazing Squad's career. So you'd ideally be after performance discs and pads.

Ah, but you see, if thats the case, then you just opened up your aftermarket support to any other model that has the same brakes

They both dominate time attack events all over the place. They're both monsters.

FWD is great. They're usually lighter because they don't need a driveshaft or separate rear diff. The engine is over the drive wheels. They don't drift out of turns when you hit the accelerator......

id do 4-2-1 headers for good low down torque and high end power, and 2.25 inch exaust with a couple of mufflers , intake pipe/pod filter, some lower/stiffer springs and some racing seats, ann some nice lightweight rims and some dunlop dirrezza tyres. oh and a bigger throttle body
