Sup guys.

Months ago I got my drivers license, well, I passed the exam, Ive received the license today (the official one) For that time, Ive been driving mom's car, yeah, moms, and still gotta introduce it here, cause ill be trying to get a Golf TDi soon to trade it for the 406. Mom always wanted a Golf, so why not buying one.

About the car, you all know which one is, anyway, Peugeot 406, Phase II (from October 2000), STDT Version which have got an 2.0 liter turbo-diesel engine (HDi) This one is the first model in having Common-Rail injection, which is god damn awesome.

The car is 100% stock and I plan to keep it stock, but I would like to change few things plus the maintenance.





Now, THOUGHS ABOUT IT

Pretty cool if you let me say, and very cheap. The good thing is the engine, its a diesel so its pretty cheap when alking about filling the tank, the car have got almost 248.000 kms.
When I took it the average fuel was 6.3L/100kms, now is 5.8L/100. I go fine on the road, sometimes going hard but not always, its just unnecessary. Being brief, 20 euros of petrol/week, which means 300/350kms.

Month ago Ive changed the tires, passed the ITV (Mot in England I think) and insured him, so everything is going fine.

Id like to change the suspension, lower it 4cms, maybe 3 front and 4 back. Ive seen some units with Kayaba Gas Shock Absorbers, and they go very very good, with a 17'' or 18'' will be perfect. Still a comfy car but with sporty handling. Also I have to fix the whole body, so ill paint it too, same color I guess. Apart from suspension, wheels and bodywork, I might change the interior and add a few stickers. I would like to add an air filter and an exhaust, but not sure about it, cause its a diesel engine, and they dont sound good.

Maintenance, it needs some, I will change the oil (oil filter too) and the cooling water.

Atm ill be updating this with pictures of it mostly, while I save money to buy new parts.

Mom use to drive quiet, thats what you have to do but sometimes the engine demands to be rev'd. I mean, yeah you can go fine on the road, but pushing the accel pedal and revving the engine is not bad, that also helps to the engine.

Diesel engines are very very dirty, nothing to see with petrol ones. If talking about an HDi or DTi from Opel, theyre way dirtier.

Why it went down? Ive cleaned things like air filter and the flowmeter and I would like to clean the whole intake but thats a lot of work since the manifolds are behind the engine and there is not much space to work.

Cleaning the s**t that changes the air flow helps the ECU to have a better measurements so it works better and the fuel consumption is lower.

I guess Ive explained it well.




Atleast ive got a turbo engine.

youre just ridiculous. the money you spend on petrol to it you can spend it on the turbo engine.

If you make small runs around town the diesel particle filter doesnt get heated up and wont be cleaning the recirculated exhaust gas and your intake might get sooted like this poor thing



Do you see what that is? A intake shrunken to the half size of what it should be.

EGR valves are required by law on any modern diesel engine recirculating spent exhaust gas into the intake to reduce combustion temps and thus reducing the produktion of NOx gasses..

What my point is unless you wanna clean out your whole intake system every 3 months dont drive Diesels unless you go 60-70 km everytime u get behind the wheel..

Now how do you thing the turbo looks on the inside hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?

Also what you cleaned does not measure flow it measures total manifold pressure.. But its the same thing just doing it differently..

The good thing of my engine is that I dont have the FAP, and I planned to remove the EGR, but not sure about this, also been thinking in removing the catalyser too but meh

I might do that If I change the exhaust.

Unless you have some way of working around it the engine might go into "safe mode" or "malfunction mode" limiting turbo pressure and overall speed.

If you'd remove the EGR.

Its kinda get to the workshop with out stressing the engine mode so 20%

Wat engine is it exactly thats in the 406 you have? PSA?

Ive seen models without the EGR, and they work perfectly. Also the 2.2 which came with the FAP, ive seen them developing 160-180hp with an ecu upgrade and the egr and fap removed.

Ive got the DW10ATED, or the 2.0 HDi 110 (RHZ Code)

Ive been talking wit some dudes at work and they think the ecu is not so advanced it would really notice that the EGR is not there.

But what you really should is just block its entry to the intake off completely.

blocking the entry is what I meant, with a small piece of metal or something

the ecu upgrade onlu consist in programming the map again, so more hp and more torque

if it was a 2.2 I would do it, a friend had his 406 with 180hp and 450nm of torque

also a thing I would do is changing the turbo pressure, now is 0.9-1.0 bar, so 1.1 bar would make a difference, 1.2 would be too much

One thing with removeing the egrvis that you chance the cars exhaust mixture value and it wont pass mot, not sure about spanish mot rules..

About the turbo pressure im sure it would handle that, worst case scenario you blow the turbo, crack a pressure hose.

Ive decided that I wont remove the EGR, either the catalyser. All the cars Ive seen without them they gave problems.

Not sure about the turbo pressure too, my friends Astra have the pressure increased by a resistor, car goes awesome but not sure if the engine will last much lol

Thats the most ignorant thing i've heard all year. That s**t gets so hard or nasty gooish the vacuum of the engine wouldnt be enough to suck it into the combustion.

Im going to change oil and filter in a few days.

The oil: TOTAL Quartz Energy 7000 10W40 and MANN filter.

Im also planning to change plates.

Might be a bit thin for the car, u can check the amount and the right viskosity at castrols webpage.

Normally on the diesel PSA engines we use 5W30 at work..

I think you use the 5W30 because of the temperature you got in your country. We always used 10W40 and went fine.

Its moms, but she dont use it at all, I can consider it mine, she too lol. Anyway things like suspension or rims are are good for it, I plan in buying an sporty suspension and 16 inch wheels, maybe 17, they will go fine. Just soft mods.



Hoggar wheels are sweet.

Daniel im saving for an S13, I plan to have it next christmas or so.. We'll see. An EG5 would be cool too, but S13 is better



Yeah, Kayaba majes good suspensions for it, ive heard Volgtland, but ive tested same as mine with KYB shock absorbers and eibach springs and they go pretty awesome!

The Peugeot is one or probably the most reliable car we ever had, and If I spend money, just a bit on it, i believe i will use it for a few years for sure. Its an awesome daily for me, perfect I would say..

I guess a modest wheel and maybe a really tiny lowering would be nice. It would bump the value of the car, yet it wouldn't cost a fortune and end up in massive losses.

My buddies 206 droped all its oil on the highway..

So i found a replacement engine from the same generation and engine codes were the same when i was to drop it in the harness for wiring had 3 extra plugs that was no where to found on the new engine..

Spares are cheap tho..

So,

Ive checked my tires today and they need to be changed. Ive been surfing a few websites and I will buy a set of GoodYear EfficientGrip Performance, 195/65R15

I was going to buy a set of Falkens but the guy changed the price of the Goodyears and they are very cheap.

Also I want to say that I have planned a few goodies for the Pug for the next months.

Ahhhh and I cleaned the thing!

the damage have an explaination. Mom used to have a pub and lots of drunk people used to scratch the car and kick the body, mom was not going to spend money on that since they would broke it again...

Havent checked them, I was going to buy a set of Falken ZIEX 914 but then they offered a set of new GoodYear Efficient Grip Performance in the same size, so I bought these. I will mount them this week I hope.

These wheels seem to be nice, just the flank is a bit soft for my taste, I was expecting something more not that soft lol. Cant wait to test them.

Meanwhile I did some basic maintenance, bought air filter, cabin filter, a new oil dipstick and a rear tail light bulb.

seeing the pictures, glad I did that, i wasnt sure about the air filter but yeah was nice to done that.

Also I plan for the next weeks repair the passengers window, the engine is broken, mount the new tires as I said, change the gearbox oil, check rear bushings (I think one is making an annoying noise) also when checking this, tense the handbrake and check the rear brake pads, I think they need to be changed too.

Also there is something that is bugging me, I hope any of you can help me.

Some times, when driving, the coolant sensor´s light appears on the dash. First time was because there wasnt enough fluid so Ive filled it.

Now comes on occasionally, I think the problem comes from the sensor, because while the light was on, a friend moved a little the sensor and the light went out and didnt turn in a few days, but now its back. Fluid is fine because I check it periodically and the temperature of the engine doesnt exceed 90degrees, attending to the dashboard.

Ive cleaned with brake cleaner the sensor as I did with the flowmeter but the problem is still there.

Not sure if buy a new sensor or what to do tbh
