Pixel Car Art _ Site Rules _ 3. Crediting

Posted by: addict Jun 13 2009, 03:10 AM

What does "crediting" mean?
Crediting means that you acknowledge other peoples work which you've either used in it's entirety or as inspiration. For example, if you use another members base for your tune, you must credit the creator of the base. If you use another members wheels, you must credit the creator of the wheels. If you saw someones final tune or WIP and decided you could make the shading better, the AA, or used it as a base and then modified to create your own tune, you MUST credit.

Basically, unless you've created it from scratch yourself and didn't look at anyone elses work, chances are you owe a credit to someone. If an artist sees something which resembles their work without a credit you will probably get flammed, and while we try to keep that to a minimum, if staff find that you're blatently ripping off other peoples work you will be suspended or banned.

Why is it such an issue?
It's basically piracy. Everyone would be familiar with song artists taking each other to court because two songs are very similar, or if you cover a song or riff you usually ask permission before hand - pixel art is no different. Why should one member spend hours upon hours perfecting their artwork just to have it ripped off by someone else who tries to take the credit?

The key here is to be honest and up front, it will earn you more respect. Ask people before you use their work, credit where it's due and everyone gets along.

What if I use someone elses work from another site?
It makes no difference, you must credit. Similarly, if you're using any work from PCA for another site, please credit the PCA member. This is a global problem, not just a PCA problem.

How do I credit?
Credits are normally done one of two ways. Both usually take the form of "Base By:", "Wheels By:" etc with the artists name next to each credit. The first method is to have credits in the image itself. The second method is to have all credits listed in your post under the image.

Extra Information
If you have any other questions please contact staff or other members - they will usually point you in the right direction regarding crediting.
