Picking it up today at six, and then I'll get more pictures. Unfortunately, it's the 90hp 2.3 4-cylinder engine with an automatic.... But I didn't have much choice when I bought it for $600, so STFU.
Current plans are to redo the black trim, since it's turning yellow on the back bumper and it's just faded in general, and then... that's all I have in mind right now.

Posted by: Curtis Jul 30 2012, 05:39 PM

90hp from a 2.3?! Jeesus christ my 1.4 8v produces 75, my old 16v 1.4 made 100! How the f**k do americans make such bad engines?!

Posted by: Faяaп. Jul 30 2012, 05:42 PM

steal the blue one too toung.gif

Posted by: Carly. Jul 30 2012, 05:42 PM

Nowhere near as bad as the Jag V12 that only puts out a little over 100. toung.gif

I honestly have no idea why it's so underpowered, but as soon as I find a job, that's going to change. Unless it's too late to matter. I only plan on keeping it for a year, unless one of my parents wants to use it while I'm in college.

I do wish I was getting the blue one. xd.gif It's much cooler.

Posted by: Helmasaur King Jul 30 2012, 05:43 PM

Very cool, you paid 600 for that ? Is this some kind of a joke? you can get that thing for like 40 pesos dude

Posted by: TribalThunder Jul 30 2012, 05:43 PM

Are you gonna redo the paint to? because that also looks kinda scratchy .. Otherwise nice for that price

Posted by: Carly. Jul 30 2012, 05:45 PM

Probably won't redo the paint. It is pretty bad, but a quality paint job would nearly double the cost of the car. It's just not in my budget at the moment.

Posted by: Helmasaur King Jul 30 2012, 05:53 PM

I will send you a few buckets of paint that I used on my Maserati, I don't need them anymore and I'm moving out soon

Posted by: Mkid Jul 30 2012, 05:54 PM

plastidip the black trim, problem solved. fyi plastidip is what i used to black out the front of my car. you can get it at home depot for cheap.

Alternatively you can use a regular pink rubber eraser (no joke, it works for stained matte black pieces. Just scrub the stain off and then wipe away the shavings) to take out stains from it and then use some tire-shine on it. Won't last forever but good to do each time you wash it.

Posted by: J.red Jul 30 2012, 11:20 PM

early american 4 cylinders weren't very high revving engines. They were built similar to the way they built the v8's. They rev well under the point where horsepower is higher than torque which is somewhere around 5120 rpm. As a result, this motor makes 90hp, but nearly 125 ft lb's of torque. Whereas a higher revving engine like a honda would make 140 hp on the same torque numbers. Horsepower is only a function of your torque and rpms.

Posted by: Ben.H Jul 30 2012, 11:56 PM

lol I would love that for a first car, you can pretend to be Vanilla Ice just with half the cylinders

Posted by: Carly. Jul 31 2012, 04:31 AM

I will...... Tomorrow, or possibly Wednesday. It's been sitting for two months and won't start. But the seller, who is now officially the most awesome person ever, said "I promised you a running car, and that's what you're getting." He's doing all the work on it.

Reasons to get a manual over an automatic:

Better driving experience
Better fuel economy and performance
Considerably cheaper to purchase parts when something goes wrong
Considerably easier to replace parts when something goes wrong
Lower likelyhood of hitting the wrong pedal when not fully attentive at the wheel

I'd say that was reason enough to be honest.

Posted by: uiui Aug 1 2012, 12:48 PM

Sarcasm?Do you drive automatic?

Posted by: manga tuner Aug 1 2012, 01:13 PM

i drive both

automatic:
+easy to drive
+ only 2 pedals
+ no need to check RPM all time
- possibly pressing of wrong pedal
- if you only drive automatic cars you cant drive your friends manual

manual:
+clutch
+possibly more economic while driving (80 km/h with fifth gear ,etc.)
+as said better driving experience
+you can drive your friends automatic
-you have to check rpm
-harder to drive than automatic

Nice Mustang. Hopefully you'll ignore everyone telling you to get more clutch and low. These things cost money which everyone asumes you have, so you should go do right now. toung.gif I know from my own car. How's the interior?

Got it home today. My mom took a picture, but.... Holy s**t iPods have bad cameras.

The battery is so insanely close to dying. I mean, I was going to run out tomorrow to buy a cassette tape iPod connector thingamajig, but if I can even get it to start at home it will probably be dead in the parking lot. Especially since the power windows are basically mandatory with the lack of AC in 90+ degrees. So I'll probably spend tomorrow just cleaning it until either of my parents get home to go get me a new battery, or to let me borrow one of theirs for the day.

Posted by: Helmasaur King Aug 2 2012, 04:40 PM

if you do this you must design the interior like a space ship

Posted by: Mkid Aug 2 2012, 04:43 PM

it needs bigger wheels than what you have now

Posted by: Carly. Aug 2 2012, 05:59 PM

I do agree about that. I'm probably going to buy my next set of tires at Pull-A-Part. $14 each for a standard rim with a tire on it. $60 for used tires that still have plenty of life in them, and then I get that money back and more by selling the rims I already have. And it's totally DIY.

Hopefully I'll find some of these:

Which is actually likely with how often 5.0s show up in there. I just have to make sure to get there the same day one is put on the lot. Wheels are always the first thing to go.

Posted by: uiui Aug 2 2012, 06:01 PM

Screw good rims if your engine sucks.Engine is the most important its like heart of humans only with gas as blood !

Posted by: Curtis Aug 2 2012, 06:10 PM

No. You should always sort the chassis out before you even look at the engine. Power is nothing without Control.

Posted by: Carly. Aug 2 2012, 06:12 PM

Weight is most important in my book. It helps with every single thing.

But anyway, my point about the wheels is it's very cheap to get them at the junkyard. And it's necessary to replace the tires after a while. The engine is totally fine as it is, so upgrading it is just extra money that I don't have.

You seem to have forgotten that it's not your car.

Those wheels would be cool bryce. I don't know how easy it is to swap a manual into that car, but if there's manuals available for the engine/chassis, it can be done. Just as a possible future option, if you keep it that long and want to. My car was an automatic 1.5L when it came to me, but I never once complained because I got it for basically scrap metal price. And look where it is now.

Yes, but they don't just fit everything right out of the box. The main pipe thing needs to be custom-fitted nearly every time.

My Pull-A-Part has its fair share of awesome cars, too. I just had no idea they were for sale. toung.gif To me, they were just awesome things with cool stuff inside and neat badges to pry off and pocket.

Posted by: Carly. Sep 4 2012, 12:57 AM

So, uhh..... It's been in the shop for a long time. Short circuit. Didn't notice it until it was in for basic maintenance, and now they're holding onto it indefinitely until they find the problem.

The thing I love about my mechanic, is that any other place would say "Okay, we'll replace all the electrics and that'll be $1,500." but my guys are taking the time to pinpoint the specific thing to fix, and they're not even charging me to keep the car there all this time. Also, the labor going into finding the problem is totally free. If they find it and I want to fix it myself, I can just go and take it home without paying a dime. Of course, in that case I'd give a nice tip, but still. They're wonderful.

The only way to stance this car would be to raise the rear slightly, lower the front slightly, and put drag slicks on it. Which is way too expensive for an unemployed high school student. So I'm just going to wait until I can find some of these wheels, or really anything OEM that look better than mine.

I'll admit that I also wouldn't mind maybe dropping it about 1" in the front and 0.5" in the back. Just a teeny bit, because yeah, there is a lot of gap.

Any recommendations for cheap black spray paint to go over the trim? I don't want to spend more than $5 for a can, and it can't be noticeably glossy, nor can it be super runny. I don't want it to dry with drips and pools and s**t.

Posted by: Curtis Jan 1 2013, 07:35 PM

plastidip, no idea if you can get it over there, but its touch dry within 10 minutes, and doesn't need any prep. its a rubbery finish though so you need a clear coat if you want gloss, but you wont have to pay for primers like you would with other spray paints

Posted by: uiui Jan 1 2013, 07:43 PM

Bryce happy new year and I wish you great fun with Stang toothygrin.gif

Posted by: Rywired Jan 1 2013, 10:36 PM

I can vouch for plasti dip, that s**t works wonders! Sprayed em on my brother in law's wheels and has been holding up for a couple of months now. If it starts to peel it can be an easy ass fix. just make sure you spray on light coats to keep it from forming dribbles and s**t.

Oh and If you do mess up, you can always peel it off and respray.
