They're not fast, they hardly even look cool, toyota just hyped the f**k out of this car to make people think it was cool before release. My take on the ZN6 is that it really is like the second coming of the AE86. It's a slow but fun, economical sports car. However, it has hardly been marketed that way, and as a result people expect way more than they should. I don't think it is supposed to be fast, or even be an 'uncompromising' sports car like an RX7 or S2000. Hell, the AE even had a live rear axle for more interior space and save money. The ZN6 really should have been marketed as a fun car for everyone to appreciate, but turned into this performance poster child for some reason. The thing is slow as f**k. But that is not what bothers me, what bothers me is people expect it to be fast. But, whatever. I'll continue to roll my eyes every time an FRS commercial comes on, but it''s not like it matters, the thing is already a massive hit. I just wonder how people will remember it in 30 years.

The 86 was marketed as a sports car, period. That's what it is. It was in no way marketed as a Ferrari-killer, ever; that's all the s**t that grew into dumb people's minds. The car makes 200hp on a non-turbo engine, which is pretty decent out of a 2.0L. I have lots of respect for the car, it looks great, and people are already doing great things with it. I'd rather have the 86/BRZ around trying to liven up the whole tuning industry again, rather than not having anything like it at all.
I hope Nissan and Honda follow up and make their own cheap, sports cars to rival Toyota and Subaru (new Silvia is on the horizon apparently) |
