My latest car, 2001 Ford Puma 1.7. Definitely the most fun car I've ever driven and the best car I've had yet

Posted by: uiui May 1 2014, 08:50 AM

No your seat was better

Posted by: Thor May 1 2014, 09:24 AM

if he had gotten it with any other engine then the 1,7 that would be true.

FFS Stop buying cars!

Posted by: JoviBlue May 1 2014, 02:33 PM

Looks sweet

Not trying to be a d**k, but aren't they as problematic as MG ZR's? I don't remember why, but I know loads have rust issues like the Ka

It's like you're literally disabled, how is it worse than this in any way

I had two 1.2 Puntos which were just slow and s**t, a 1.4 Golf which was ridiculously slow and unreliable and that Ibiza pictured which is without a doubt the biggest knacker I've ever driven

Cheers for the compliments all, Jovi, yeah they rust bad, it's because it's a Ford really. This one isn't bad, it has some surface rust on the drivers side rear arch and some on the outer sill. Enginewise they're pretty reliable though, at least that's what I'm lead to believe, time will tell

Daniel, it's got the 125ps engine. You could only get the 155ps engine in the Racing Puma, which I'd love but they're a lot of money to buy and insure

Look good though, puts mine to shame really

Posted by: Daniel. May 1 2014, 03:09 PM

well 125hp is fine too, that's what our audi had and it weighed like twice as much lol
Ford engines are pretty reliable afaik, my brother is practically forcing me to get a Fiesta cause he swears by their engines toung.gif

If you get a Mk4/5 Fiesta then thats what Pumas are based off. The 1.25 16v is a really good engine, just make sure you don't get the 1.3 as its a very dated engine design and underpowered. The 1.7 Puma engine fits straight in with not a lot of work and is an easy way to get 125hp.

nice hooptie
always thought they were cool
really just needs the engine tinkered with and anti corrosion treatment and this will be cool
I'd personally like to see just a front spoiler and a little low but thats my taste on style
im sure you already know what you're gonna do toung.gif

Posted by: DMC-12 May 2 2014, 12:57 AM

Apparently Ben the puma shares more of the floorpan with the Mk3.5 fiesta wink.gif I dunno why they used that instead of the Mk4 but it's part of the reason it rusts as bad as the Mk3 and The Ka. Some chap on the fiestaturbo forum was saying. Kray Kray. Awesome little cars though. Can be made to look badass pretty easily and awesome handling toothygrin.gif

That's a pinto with a YB head? thats like 210bhp I'm pretty sure

Posted by: Thor May 2 2014, 09:29 AM

I think its a BDA witha YB head.

BDA, YB doesnt make a difference, either one would be mad sweet in a Puma.

Posted by: JoviBlue May 2 2014, 09:35 AM

BDA is v rare and expensive, plus wouldn'tbe enough for a puma

YB is powerful enough, but lots of money to get 300+

duratec have a good power band, weight and have a 2.5 block from the 2010+ ranger, so possible to get 300bhp N/A, turbo it and its almost endless. plus probably cost same as a 300bhp yb if you went full turbo on the dura

Posted by: Thor May 2 2014, 09:37 AM

yeh, well the noize..

Posted by: JoviBlue May 2 2014, 09:51 AM

DA NOIZ

Posted by: Vicktator May 2 2014, 12:20 PM

i can sell you my duratec 2.5 toung.gif

btw, nice car mane, for real, congrats, i really like both the style of this little thing and the 1.7 on it

naaaiss

Posted by: DMC-12 May 2 2014, 12:43 PM

A YB these days is pushing 2k. Plus to fit a YB in a transverse car would be hell. I'd go with black top zetec on bike throttlebodies.

I need a YB in my cortina, but I think I'd just go with using the YB head on a pinto block. Much cheaper.

Had a change of heart and I've been spending some money on this recently which is amazing for me, I generally just drive cars until they die

It's recently had:

- Coil pack
- HT leads
- Spark plugs
- Fuel filter
- Air filter
- Oil filter
- Oil change
- Mass air flow sensor
- Two new front tyres
- Tracking
- Fresh 12 months MOT
- Headlight bulb
- Reverse light bulb
- Wiper blades

Doesn't seem a lot but it's a step in the right direction, I've sorted the running issues and it now runs very clean and strong all through the rev range, also drives a lot better thanks to the service, tyres and tracking

Next jobs I've got planned are:

- Replacement OEM backbox with a straight through centre section
- Cambelt change
- Rear axle bushes
- Wishbones and drop links on both sides
- Replace the driver's side rear fog light
- Wire up the subwoofer I've had lying around for a while
- Sort out the driver's side rear arch
- Tidy up the engine bay

Giving it a full polish and wax tomorrow to try and get some shine back into the paint, I feel like I'm giving this car a new lease of life, the last owner clearly didn't really look after it, I could tell that from the state of the wheels, tracking and filters, rough. So I'm pretty sure the cambelt hasn't been changed and that's overdue so that's high priority at the moment. Once all that's done mods will be:

- Powerflex bushes all around
- 40mm lowering springs with new shocks
- 6000k HIDs
- LED sidelights
- LED number plate lights
- LED interior lights
- LED smoked repeaters
- Get the wheels refurbed in black
- Some kind of splitter
- Some kind of small spoiler on the back
- Smooth the bootlid
- Might add some 'speed holes' in the front bumper for the jokes

Don't really plan on doing much engine wise other than maybe an induction kit or if anything interesting and worthwhile comes up for a good price, just keep on top of it and make sure it's in good order
