Ok, well its my birthday on may 4th, so my parents and friends got me a bus because i have always wanted one. i wanted a project so i can work on it with my dad, and so i got one.
here are the facts
-it is a split window
-it is a 1957
-its very rusty
-needs front ALOT of parts
-its awsome
-its mine
here are the pics
the colors are palm green(top) sand green(boddom)
i plan to repaint it its orignal colors (palm green, sand green)
i dont really have much info because i have just had a brief look at it
i will post more pics of it when i have them
im so jealous
ive always wanted a kombi... or more a beetle, in this sorta condition so i can fix it up for in time when i get my license.
pics sayin "hai PCA" or gtfo
and I feel sorry for that if it used to be green... lol
How the hell does it go from green to white?
or was it green and white?
nah, it's his
a lot of detail match the story
i would love to get something like thos on my bday, but meh, how can i tell my parrents: mom, dad for my birthday i want a rusty car with no engine, doors or interior.
mom would be like: dear, call the dector, we have an emergency
dad would be like: ok, but only if u let me drive it
i would be like:
lol
sorry for the offtopic
looks strong just need alot of body work on it and interior. front looks quite strong cus normally you have to replace the front end but it might just need some touch ups. how much was it, my guess is about 4-5k (british pounds) maybe seen as a restored one is about 13-20k(british pounds) lol
jesus christ thats rusty. sweet score though. ide love to own one and make it lay frame
also you spelt bottom wrong. and you spelt wagon wrong in your sig aswell
volksWAGEN
Get it runnin, bolt a park bench in the front, put some lights in it, slam it BAM your a cult hero
Honestly though happy birthday and congrats, I wish I had the space/time/money/drive to find and build one of these (Canada is tough on VW's)
Keep us updated.... PLEASE!
paint it yellow and red and blue and write bryce on the side to prove that you own it.
Why The f*** yellow?
U are really weird.
bottom white and do the top candy apple red
it is an old model, you can see that on the rests of the front blinker
no, i'd say black on top, grey on bottom. i think that was a stock option before, ive seen a few like that.
to be honest mate, find an old Subaru Legacy engine, even the 2.0 NA flat four'll do, link it to the rear wheels, cut the leaves and have it near-scraping. sort out the windows, fit a close-ratio rack and pinion, sort out some disks up front, and put on some lights. little bit of rust repair on the chassis rails and engine mounts, should make a fun little cult wagon. f*** paint, bare steel, primer and filler ftw.
no, it'd be putting out about 100bhp.....
but it would look like a pice of poo but be fast
Very cool, its pretty cool, I'd paint it the original color, then maybe give it a cool decal later on. :I but yeah, PUT A FASSSSSSST ENGINE, lamborghini reventon
Lol,
What about a porsche engine? Don't people put those in em?
And then have like a waterbed in the back with shag carpets and stuff
I agree with Ed, I would get the electrical, floors, suspension, brakes, and engine sorted and just leave the rest be, maybe fix the glass to get the bugs otuta your teeth
So you wanna be a cult super star, and rust cars, with low pros, ya scrape bars you in charge, air'in up the bags, drive slow got no po-po pullin ya over for flyin far
Lame attempt at a rap!
Instead of using a transplanted engine, how abouts use a old 1600 or even a 2000 if you could get a good one, keep it all original, ya' know?
ggget VELVET curtains
i will get new pics next weekend
srry for doubble post
put it on "Pimp my Ride", it looks perfect
I think the stock colors look sexy as hell, and I must be weird, but I kinda like my cars shiny (my Firebird is the exception )
I have a 1600 Fuelie out of a Beetle up here if you wanna come get it lol
Bottom part Black
Top Part Grey
Maybe the roof white
red pinstripe between the grey and black
I WANT the PADDY WAGGEN V2.0
yah, me to radu, but i am just gonna repaint it its orignal colors
I have a shop/machine shop/body shop at my disposal and $100,000 in snap-on tools at my fingertips
the advantage you have is you have a shell, I haev an engine.. LOL I lost my beetle in a legal matter so I only have the engine (and about $17 canadian to my name lol)
HOWEVER I met a man through that legal battel today who has over 100 Kombi's Westies Dokas T3 Synchros and the like ONTOP of his Beetle, Puma, Karman Giha and Thing collectons so I may be grabbing some vehicles off him (hes in a land battle and will lose alot of his collection soon)
Maybe we can have a restore off
If somebody can fund me a car ill join in!
lollolll
Really nice kombi!! I like so much!! But he need some work!
dude with the hair looks exactly like me.
good luck witht he restoration
That is a lot of f****ing rust
wow, lol
I gotta take a trip to his barn 4 hours up north to get the pics (he should take me soon) he has some other neat cars I'm lookin at though, like his Lada Nivia Pickup and a Citroen Panel Van
If I have my way our battle won't be fair (your bus is in MUCH worse condition then the one he showed me pics of that I want) but when I do eventually buy the ones that I want off him I'll group them together so it's fair
Mostly I want his 79 Scirocco for a DD cause the Supra is too much on insurace ha ha
i have just started, i need a list ( wich i am starting tomarow) of parts i need for the bus and how mutch thay are so i can buy the parts at my dads show
look!!!
BEFORE:
AFTER I AM DONE RESTORING ACCEPT IT IS GOING TO BE LOWERD ABOUT 2 INCHES:
BEFORE:
AFTER I AM DONE RESTORING ACCEPT IT IS GOING TO BE LOWERD ABOUT 2 INCHES:
wow thats gonna be a project
i hope your still on pca when your finished!
i wish i had the space to do something liketis.
thats an issue also, its gonna sit there in the same spot untill we get some extra space at my dads shop for it
out and open to the elements
nice bus.
yah, well, as an update, i have got some parts for it.
and i might wet sand it
(ONCE IT STOPS RAINING WHENEVER I HAVE THE CHANCE TO WORK ON IT!!!)
for sanding yes, not for Duncan, he is made of Sugar......
Yeah, i was gonna say
killer score! cant wait to see it up and running theres 1 or 2 of them around my way in decent condition one was for sale but it sold i wanted it to
Nice acquisition! May i suggest putting a tarp over the top to protect it from the weather? i know it is probably rotten inside out, but it will help instead of things getting worse. There is a triumph dolomite i have my eyes on! its in a little better condition, but the front is pretty bad! Its gonna be fun finding replacments for all of those nuts and bolts!!
Tarp is great but there are some flaws, when something is covered in tarp it will sweat basicly and moss and s*** will grow under the sheet, unless it is air tight and moisture tight.
i suppose, not a tarp then, but something made for the purpose should exist
Like a ShamWow?
http://img7.imageshack.us/my.php?image=shamwowy.jpg
well, i dont want to wet sand it in the rain, because it will just be a mess.
and i have a tarp, you can see it in the corners of the pics
and the shamwow guy got arrested for abuseing his wife
not his wife, a hooker... GET IT RIGHT.
so in other words, you're both right.
ZING
I think he had the right to beat her up though, she bit his tongue... that's hella messed up... lol
lol, and an update:
me and my dad are gonna be pulling it up to his shop, wich im working at for 5 dollars an hour, and then im gonna be pulling the front beam out from under it and im gonna be cleaning it, sanding it to the bare mettle and then spray painting it gray
gray primer I hope?
yah
oh wow, its been awhile since i have posted in this topic. its been a little while. haha, well, lets see, its going to be a long slowly but surely process. hmmmm, i have a few parts for it. i have a middle seat, a rear seat, all but 3 pieces of glass, battery tray, rear corner, back hatch, umm, i cant really think of much anything else off the top of my head right this second. i have some money saved up, and i continue to work at Monkey Nut Vw. I haven't done much more then clean it, move it into the garage, and dissembled it. I took the rear end out, and i have a newly rebuilt transmission for it waiting down at the shop.
i plan to take it down to the shop this summer and work on the floors and the engine compartment. I plan to get all the necessary body work done first. (like floors and engine compartment and stuff like that.) then i want to get it running and driving. then ill drive it around and do some body work to it here and there whenever i have the money. then when all the body work is done and stuff, ill paint it. Palm-Green Sand-Green (L 311 and L 312) then ill collect some accessories and parts and stuff as i come across them. that's my plan, but it might change as i go along. umm, i guess that's all for right now. CNC please!!!!! and if you have any questions or if your curious about anything at all, please ask!!
heres some pics
before transmission removal
After transmission removal

i will post more pics. these are old pics, sorry, there all i have
Do moar work!! you've had it ages!
yeah, i have had it for over a year now. im pretty disappointed that i haven't got much work done to it as i would have liked.
well, i hope to have it at least towed to monkey nut by the end of this summer. it cannot be towed by car but its eather going to use a flatbed (about $80) or we could rent a trailer (about $150-200). im thinking about getting the trailer because we have more than 1 car that needs to be towed and a bunch of parts, and it would probably be cheaper if we get the trailer. it is currently standing outside the garage awaiting to be towed.
i have pics, but they wont upload for some reason.
and i FOUND an OG early headlight lens in the TRASH. its in pretty good condition. it has 1 minor chip kind of in the middle. but its definitely usable.
pics laturrrrrr
Duude, don't you think it would be cheaper to buy one that needs less work? This thing needs so much welding and stuff like that, surely it would work out cheaper in the end.
But this way would be more fun
Agreed. Much more rewarding, too.
MORE PICS!!!!!!!! Love the car. But I like tuners and crap, yet I love euro
im thinking of buying like a beater to drive around while im working on this. and ill just work on it gradually as i get more money. and if i acquire a bus that needs the parts that are good on this ill just combine the two.
and ill have pics as soon as possible
why do you call a thing bus, if i call it a rustbucket
damn, i do love rat, but this, dayum man
you call it a rustbucket, i call it rust with some car leftovers.
seriously, when you get to metalwork there will be 10 good percent to leave.
Come on guys. I agree it's a huge challenge, but Duncan's really got his heart into this one. I say if he wants to make it run then he should, if he wants to make it look good then he should, and if he decides to turn it into a rocket ship, then why the f*ck shouldn't he? It's his car and he likes it.
just make a tubular chassis and cage inside it and spray that transparent paint that prevent rust (in this case to mek its pread to the lefting material)
lol, the chassis isent bad. its just the body. thanks guys for the responces.
the newnew rusty??
i took some pics this morning. thought id share
PEEKS IN DE LEENK!!
VVVV
http://dunkydeephotography.blogspot.com/2010/08/duncans-1957-vw-bus.html
wich one are u going to restore first??
it doesnt have an engine DDDD:
haha, well, the blue one we just picked up a few days ago and its for my dads shop as a parts runner and stuff. and most likely the blue one will get an engine first.
the headlight lens i found in the garbage...
picked up some schweeett seat clamps that clamp the middle and the back seat down.
ill have pics one i find my stupid card reader.
i also got a (useable) T handle!! (pics later. stupid card reader always loosing itself.)
(pic is just for refference. mine is not as nice)
imma move this to automotive
what was it in?
offtopic
get this into a chemical bath
weld in holes, and it will be all fineeeee
on a serious note
you should get a better body imo
well, ill fix the major problems first like the front floors and the cargo door rocker and the battery tray. and then ill get it running and fix it along the way.
btw, the market for a bus is through the roof right now, so finding a good cheep body just is tooo unrealistic.
i was thinking maybe these tires.
G78-15 STA Super Traxions
if your gonna get those tires, make it look super offroady. not euro
what the f**k those tires
white band tires and chrome hubcaps ftw. do it
Those tyres. with nato green and Luftwaffe stickers
haha, no white bands, but chrome hubcaps with black inserts, with palmgreen sandgreen rims fosho.
(like this, but with the tires above maby with some pinstripeing)
those tires would not look good on that.
They would look good if it was in this style:
ehh, they look good on a vanagon. lol, im not shure, i might go with light gray hubcaps with black inserts. hmm i dont know
alrighty, alittle change in plans. my dad has a 1971 vw type 3 fastback. its a very solid car and nice and OG.
i only have one pic of it. sorry.
we have all the parts for it, it just needs to be put together. but im going to have to build my own motor for it. but ill pretty much borrow it from my dad and drive this around while i fix my bus and then ill switch my motor to my bus and give the car back to my dad and drive my bus. pretty good plan eh?
you should just rat rod the bus euro style
well, i like the lowerd look, and i think it would look pretty cool with the way it is. im thinking about lowering it later on, but im gonna keep it stock for now.
if your gunna lower it dont do this http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3333/3661414149_138c6667f4.jpg
do something like this.
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/dic/pix/slammed1.jpg
if i do lower it, it will be about this height
but im pretty shure im gonna keep this one stock
cool
they look so weird so sunk. spacers?
Like this topic.
not bad at all.
Why not, if anything just sell it for a few hundred and get your bus running.
exactly my plan. but its in a title loan
get the civic, put the engine in ur bus, dump the civic, drive off happily in your bus
EDIT: sell the bus to some collector fella, get the civic, so cal rat rod the civic
well, id like to get the civic and like slam it put some cool rims on it and alot of cool stuff.
exactly^
well, not much updates, other than a change in plans. pretty much what i have planned for the civic is..
-I get the car.
-i bring it home.
-I get a manual for it.
-Get my grandmas battery from her car that is broken.
-Try to get car running.
now depending if i am able to get it running or not
It Runs
-Get new tires
-Drive it till my bus is running.
-and possibly lower it by cutting sections out of the springs.
-Put some stickers i found and will print out
It Dosent Run
-try to sell for some extra cash for the bus
i dont wanna spend much money at all on this car so i have an very tight budget on it.
and while at a show last weekend, a guy who had previously owned my bus had brought a bumper to us to repair and to straighten out, and we believe that it was my original front bumper. So im thinking about making him an offer on it.
get that ish running before you drop in a stick lol
If you can't get it running what's the point of salvaging a new tranny?
lot of hard work for nothing
Tires might be pretty cheap fo your car too
Some 80s compacts have a weird negative charge cable that runs to the battery, make sure the new battery will be compatible :3
but sounds like you got a sweet deal dude.
not manual transmission. Repair Manual lol i wouldn't even THINK about even considering about getting a new trans for this car.
I'm stupid
I thought the same thing, Kev.
Lol! nahh. if i had a camera, i would take some pics of it to show you guys. but at the moment, no pics
slam it
of course!
I'm jealous. But its so rusty man! Your going to make Gerson rich . I hope you keep it original though! It is a barn door after all. If you wanna hack it up, or make a rat look, sell it to someone whose going to preserve it and buy a later model, imho.
Goodluck with whatever you do!
haha, you know Gerson?!?!?! LOL! thanks. although its a '57, a "bullet nose", not a barndoor. barndoors were made from late 49-early 55. but id love to have one. haha, and yea, i plan to keep it, buy alottttt of green metal (witch my dads shop is a distributor of the stuff and i get a discount) and just drive it till it falls apart. and then probably fix it up again and continue driving. haha and im definitely keeping it OG!!
I thought it was a barndoor for some reason.
And yeah, I love ACVW's especially Buses., been trying to score one for way to long.
u cant score a bus
haha, yea, there getting pretty rare and expensive these days. not to mention good quality parts.
took some pics yesterday of the civic. the title is still in a loan, so im still waiting.
sorry for bad cellphone pics.
thats pretty nice, i like it a lot
i forgot to add that the thing was crawling with ants in the door jams and they were all going into the trunk. i have no clue whats in there, lol.
most probaly a dead body
nvm
whats up?
haha, The bus is the same. I gained some sense, and realized that it's going to be about 5K just to get it running and driving. That's not including metal work, paint, or interior. Now it's sitting in the garage waiting for me to win the lottery or something.
Right now, I am trying to sell my Travelall, to get a Baywindow bus, and then I will drive that.
