Pixel Car Art _ Automotive chat _ Project 'Death of a Salesman'

Posted by: .ecyrB Sep 19 2010, 08:02 PM

So, my friend and I are working on a little project, and our working name is Death of a Salesman because, if we dedicate ourselves to it enough, it WILL eliminate all need for car salesmen.

Due to the fact that we have no patent and need more time than most people would to create it, I cannot disclose a heavy amount of information to you.

I will tell you some stuff though.
Basically, you would simply need to think of the car that you want, and we would provide a top 50 list of cars to fit your criteria. There would be full-page write-ups and reviews about each car so you can see if the #1 on your list really is number one, or whatever. Overall, it really is a fool-proof way to shop for cars in an unbiased manner, it takes FAR less time than sitting around talking to people, and it's free. The only trade-off is that you have to buy and make your own coffee.

Please vote. I just need to see if there's interest here before I print out a bunch of public surveys. toung.gif

It's very different.

Posted by: Faяaп. Sep 19 2010, 08:06 PM

So youll write a full page review on every single car?

Posted by: .ecyrB Sep 19 2010, 08:08 PM

Not her and me alone. We'll just load every common US-legal car from the past 20 years in without reviews and then get help writing those once the site is online.

EDIT: Now I'm off to do homework. feel free to ask questions, but don't spam it up with stuff like "Yeah I agree with [so and so]."

Posted by: Daniel. Sep 19 2010, 08:25 PM

So you want to stop salesmen by inviting people from the internet?

Hey, has anyone seen that movie with Sly, Schwarzeneger and all those other famous actors? Is it good?

Posted by: DMC-12 Sep 19 2010, 08:32 PM

So..... Autotrader?

Posted by: Kubason Sep 19 2010, 08:34 PM

well since I'm from czech republic, I don't care but it may work

No. It's different. I'm sorry I can't say much more, but you gotta believe me, it hasn't already been done.

Posted by: init Sep 19 2010, 08:35 PM

these salesmen need to feed their families

Posted by: .ecyrB Sep 19 2010, 08:39 PM

I know, and they will. It's not like you'd just go to the dealer with your number one car in mind and buy it. You'd still need to negotiate a price with them. All it eliminates is them trying to throw on useless upgrades and/or switch you to a completely different car. You'd just bring in a printed "certificate" or whatever and say "This is what I want, I'm not changing my mind, and if you try to convince me otherwise I'm leaving." then go get it.

Posted by: Josн Sep 19 2010, 10:38 PM

so then it's like the build-your-own feature, on most car companies' websites?

Posted by: Jolteon Sep 19 2010, 11:07 PM

so then its like another one of bryces projects that might sound promising, but obviously will never be done?

Posted by: Helmasaur King Sep 19 2010, 11:17 PM

Very cool, I once thought about it before I had heard people say it, and I thought about how the perfect world uses automatics . Nobody has to do anything dude, it is all about 2nd tier jobs now, the first tier is out, no more writing on paper, the world is CHANGING.............

sounds pretty cool, though, I hope you hab fun

i agree with this.
i'll also never need this feature, but it sounds good for those entirely oblivious to buying "transportation" (if they're using this service, they dont want a car, they want transportation)
you don't have to mention any of us in your box office movie on the international success of this original idea if you don't want to [/"The Social Network"]

I WANNA SEE THAT SO BAD!

But back on topic: Yeah, I know it seems unlikely, but all I need to know is a little bit of programming and the bare basics of a helluva lot of cars. So it'll take a while, but it's doable.

EDIT: And you're right. It's only for "ordinary" people. The best car for me would probably be something like an automatic 240SX or some s**t. But do I want that? F*ck no. I want a real car. If this works, then my first car will be a Cadillac CTS-V in ice white. cool2.gif

Posted by: Jolteon Sep 20 2010, 10:49 AM

but what is the point of this? why not just save the car salesman's job?

Posted by: .ecyrB Sep 20 2010, 08:46 PM

Because people are lazy and I can make money from ads. Plain and simple.

Posted by: .ecyrB Sep 24 2010, 09:56 PM

BUMP!

I may have thought of a way to raise money and, thanks to a loophole in the system, be able to do whatever the f**k I want at school. I am going to create a religion. cool2.gif (The school rules specifically state you can violate the dress code for religious purposes and all religious holidays are considered excused absences) You're probably taking this less seriously now, but I'm totally serious. If it's something that can be done, you can bet I'll try it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRK8P94QXxQ

Posted by: init Sep 25 2010, 07:35 PM

well, you say you only ahve 1/2 real friends, were are you going to get the extra 199/198 from?

Posted by: .ecyrB Sep 25 2010, 07:40 PM

School. I'll just spread the word around my classes and get everyone who converts to join a Facebook group so I can keep track.

EDIT: And that's beside the point anyway. Back on topic bitches.

Australians will stick to carsales.com.au look what i can find http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/results.aspx?tabID=304727&Qpb=true&keywords=&SearchAction=N&N=1216%201246%201247%201252%201282%204294965322%204294965250%204294950601&sid=12B537E76D3B&Nne=15&tsrc=allcarhome&Ns=pCar_PriceSort_Decimal|1||pCar_RankSort_Int32|1||pCar_Make_String|0||pCar_Model_String|0

But that's not what I'm talking about. On that website, you need to know what kind of car you want and stuff. On mine, it will be more like "Well... I want a car. Maybe a convertible." and then you can still easily find the perfect one off of so little criteria.

Posted by: DLuZive Sep 27 2010, 11:48 AM

Actually, look down th side, there are hundreds of options

Keyword
Postcode
State
Make
Style
Colour
Price
Year
ANCAP Safety Rating
Green Star Rating
Approved / Inspected
Mileage
Body
Transmission
Drive Type
Fuel Type
Cylinders
Seats
Doors
EngineCC

I used a custom search, it came up with a bagged hilux

Don't know about the US, but The Netherlands has at least 3 sites where you can use very little criteria, like you stated, a convertible.

No.

Are you all thinking this is like a database of all cars that are currently for sale?
Well here's a hint: It's not. You cannot physically see the car you're going to buy. The actual shopping comes after and our site will not be associated with it.

EDIT: And it's not like that either. You don't go into it with much criteria, even none at all if you're that much of a noob, and it basically forces you to make up your mind in a non-demanding way.

Posted by: Daniel. Sep 28 2010, 07:06 PM

Clear some s**t up, this is the first time you don't make sense.

First time? Every serious conversation I have ends up like this. lol

Posted by: DLuZive Sep 28 2010, 11:34 PM

I bought ar from dealer second hand, we had to replace the transmission and stuff

Posted by: .ecyrB Oct 4 2010, 01:03 AM

Out of laziness and an unwillingness to look, I decided to ask:

What software do you recommend for simple but powerful if-then programming? I can get everything else on my own but I'm at a loss for this stuff.

Posted by: Helmasaur King Oct 4 2010, 01:40 AM

use python, if it is a website thing, then I don't think python works without it being downloaded, so you maybe should use eclipse or netbeans to use java ! I don't know, but python would work I think, if you could do web support

Posted by: Unox. Oct 4 2010, 03:33 AM

HK, just how much different crap do you do? you seem to know a bit about everything.

Posted by: Helmasaur King Oct 4 2010, 03:58 AM

I make barrels

Posted by: DLuZive Oct 4 2010, 08:19 AM

lmaoo. I make GT-Rs...

Posted by: .ecyrB Oct 4 2010, 10:08 AM

Anywayyy..
Yeah, I'll give Python a shot and/or try those other ones. Thanks! smile2.gif

Posted by: Mkid Oct 4 2010, 05:40 PM

he is just a linux fanboy and everyone and there mom programs using python in linux

Posted by: Helmasaur King Oct 5 2010, 02:34 AM

yes i think so , python is pretty common, I think java will be better, though

Posted by: .ecyrB Oct 6 2010, 01:42 AM

I came up with a grammatically incorrect working title. toung.gif It has a good ring to it, it's only two short words totaling 3 syllables, it's not in English but both of the words are cognates, and something about it just sounds official. "AutoBesten." Because it's about getting the best car, Germany makes good cars, and BestenAuto sounds like crap.

Posted by: Mkid Oct 6 2010, 02:40 PM

I like BestenAuto better

Posted by: Jolteon Oct 6 2010, 04:19 PM

So you still havn't explained... What is the point of this? Many sites do reviews of cars, and you can search for a convertible, it gives you a rundown of it, and it will give you a few options.

Posted by: .ecyrB Oct 6 2010, 06:57 PM

Because it's different. I don't want to get too far into it, but it is. You just have to wait and see.

And actually, Mkid, you might be right...

Posted by: Daniel. Oct 6 2010, 07:01 PM

What the f**k

Posted by: DLuZive Oct 8 2010, 03:47 PM

get far into it then. there is not enough info on what the fak u are doing

Posted by: .ecyrB Oct 8 2010, 07:58 PM

Nope. I really can't give away any more information without giving everything away.

Posted by: Daniel. Oct 8 2010, 08:02 PM

Then why post this?

Posted by: .ecyrB Oct 8 2010, 08:28 PM

To see if there's any interest. The poll was all I cared about. The comments are your choice.

You haven't really told much and it seems like most websites. So really, no one wants to use it until they know exactly what it is. I don't think saying that you have no clue what you want, it can help you. Keywords help. I just don't understand it, sorry.
