Pixel Car Art _ Automotive chat _ Daniel's Miata

Even though this is going to be a slow ass build, I think I deserve my own topic toung.gif

The day I brought it home:

As you can see, the car is pretty OK but needs some TLC here and there. I took out the ugly ass speaker box between the seats (barely visible on the following pic) and removed the sun visors:

And since this week, I have a lip installed!

It's a cheap and s**tty fibreglass lip. In the future I'm going to upgrade to a PU one. I promised myself never to use zipties... But I don't see any other way to attach the lip. This will have to do for now.

Other than that.. These arrived in the mail today:

These will replace the ugly orange blinkers that are on the car now.

Future plans:
-Slowly freshen up the engine, replacing everything I can do myself.
-Lower the car a bit but not too much, kinda "functional" stance.
-New wheels (15x7). Currently on 16x? and they're in rough shape. Smaller wheels also fit the car better imo. I'm thinking Rota/JR Wheels, or something else that's relatively cheap but decent.
-As said, going to replace the front lip for PU ones, and also getting side skirts and a rear lip. Also maybe a ducktail/low spoiler.
-Replace the complete exhaust system.
-Either get the seats fixed or replace them for second hand ones that are in good shape.
-Replace the steering wheel and shift knob.
-Get rid of the wooden trim (it's peeling off and it's not OEM).
-Replace the orange reflectors for white (front) and red (rear) or all white.
-Delete the antenna including the base.

So yeah.. That's it for now. Thanks for reading toothygrin.gif

Posted by: Daniel. Jan 5 2017, 08:14 AM

Yes I did it!! toothygrin.gif

Did a few things:

Currently the tires rub against the fenders, so I need to roll them.... No one really does that in Holland tho. f**k

Also fitted a stainless steel 4-2-1 exhaust manifold, test pipe and stainless catback system. Just need to replace the manifold gasket, I reused the old one and it's leaking toothygrin.gif So ordering a new one soon. Hopefully this week.

Your interior is nasty. So is my car. Comes with age. Can be repaired or fixed if you find the right source. Never reuse the exhaust manifold gasket. Or any gasket really. The cheap stock ones that is. You can roll the fenders your self. There are how to vids. I like your ride. Rims and side mirrors are a nice touch.

he's already stated that he's doing most of that lol

Denial are you gonna get a hardtop? My biggest issue with the Miata is that it's a convertible toung.gif I'd like them a lot more if they were a swept back or coupe.

turn yours into an Aston Miata

Posted by: kariverson Jan 5 2017, 09:42 PM

Please don't turn it into an Aston Miata.
It's starting to look great! All you need is some lowering and a body kit and it will look like Kebins photo.

yes, turn into an aston miata, looks nice hahaha

now, seriously, your car, as you know, and as i tell you everytime, is looking really nice already, grats mate

I was thinking about this. Seen this in my new Jegs Catalog. They do international shipping.
DIY fender roller. $99. Good quality, simple.

http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/SearchResultsPageCmd?Ntt=555-81730&requestYear=&storeId=10001&catalogId=10002&langId=-1&year=&make=&model=&submodel=&engine=&Nrpp=&No=&persistYmm=false

If that's too pricy. I'm sure you could find a cheaper set up somewhere else on the web.

The only way I'm going to have a hardtop is if I can find a very cheap OEM one (they usually go for 650+, f**k that) or if I can get hold of a fastback one for not too much, similar to the Spoon S2K hardtops. But both of those options aren't very realistic.

Don't worry xd.gif not gonna go for an Aston look. Not sure if I will get any body kit though. First gonna lower it and see what it's like. Thanks btw!

My biggest issue with that is: I have no experience. So I'm probably going to f**k it up. I talked to a mechanic who owns a Miata, he said he's going to buy one of those soon and he's gonna do it on his own cars, once he's a bit experienced he's going to offer it as a service. So I'm going to wait it out a bit.

bruh that aston front is mental

bruh, whats up with the poke? Are you planning to get overfenders one day? no wonder you rub. lol

fell in love with the wheels and they were cheap, didn't even check size tbh xd.gif

But I want to go for an aggressive stance with just a little bit of camber anyways. Car's getting lowered and fenders will be rolled once I can afford those things.

Fender roller is just €50 but I don't know if I trust myself enough to do it

Posted by: Mkid Feb 21 2017, 06:10 PM

Those are never going to fit properly unless you pull your fenders to kingdom come or get overfenders or run ridiculous amounts of camber. I'd keep your eye out for a new set of wheels and see if you can trade. lol

Posted by: Daniel. Feb 22 2017, 10:31 AM

This was the stance on the previous owner's car.

I reckon it doesn't look bad at all without overfenders etc.

Keep in mind my car is stock height now. With new shocks/springs or coilovers and a proper alignment it will naturally achieve some camber, that in combination with rolled fenders should be enough.

Posted by: Mkid Feb 22 2017, 10:08 PM

Those fenders look pulled to me. I'm not giving you a hard time, I just want to make sure you don't have unrealistic expectations smile2.gif

Is that bad? Because I thought pulling was just part of rolling fenders. lol

And I fully appreciate your help bruh don't worry about it! You have more experience than me, so any tips are welcome. I'm new to this stuff.

Posted by: Mkid Feb 22 2017, 10:59 PM

Nah, its different.

Here is a beautiful work of art I put together to explain it to you:

So, from the factory, inside your fender there is a little lip that sticks in. I'm assuming its there to give a little more structural rigidity or something? but pretty much all cars have them for some reason. Rolling simply tucks this lip up so that your tire can come closer to the fender, As my diagram shows, even with it rolled, your tires still don't look like they would fit under your fender.

Fender pulling on the other hand, not only do they roll that part flat against the back of the fender, but they also pull the entire fender out. My pic might be a bit exaggerated but you get the idea.

Posted by: Daniel. Feb 22 2017, 11:32 PM

should've pixeled that toung.gif

so basically step 1 would be rolling the fender, and if that isn't enough, i roll the tab even further so it's all the way up against the fender?

and how do i pull it? just use more pressure with the fender roller?

this kind of stuff is way more accessible in the states. there isn't any shop close to me that can do it for a normal price. Spending 250€ to roll/pull my fenders isn't really what I wanna do lol

Posted by: Faяaп. Feb 22 2017, 11:39 PM

You need to stretch more material out of what has already been formed, so I figure it is much more work/difficult to pull than roll up a flange (to at least do it nicely)

You can probably get a bit of a pulled lip going with the roller, but i don't think it will be anything spectacular

Posted by: Victor. Feb 23 2017, 12:14 AM

Nah man, dont damage the beautiful bodywork of Mazda engineers.

Rep that mexipoke man.

Posted by: Mkid Feb 23 2017, 04:49 PM

My first picture is what it looks like stock, they always push the flange completely flush when rolling it.

Pulling them does involve more work like you and faran said. You are much more likely to mess up your paint because you are basically bending the metal and the paint can crack. Usually they heat up your paint while so that doesn't happen.

Great car Dan, I love those. If my height wasnt frankstein size I'd like to own one of those. Right now I'd probably run with the top off cause my forehead would be on the roofline lmao.

I kinda dig the poke tho.

Good points, dudes. Thanks. I guess I'll stick to rolling, because I can do that myself toung.gif

Thanks bro! I'm actually a little bit too long for it, but that's okay. It's comfy enough for what it is.

The poke is cool, but it will be even cooler when i roll the fenders, lower it, and get a new front lip + side skirts toothygrin.gif
Maybe also cut the rear bumper and get a ducktail... hmm

We stickered the cars for, as some of you guys have heard, Kurumai!

Time to start promoting it.

You could also do this

I don't want to molest my immaculate fenders sad.gif

Posted by: Kevin Mar 22 2017, 06:37 PM

you could do that fender cut thats becoming popular now.

or just do your own thing and ignore all of the suggestions because most people don't have a clue what some of their suggestions cost or take xd.gif

Posted by: Kubason Mar 22 2017, 09:00 PM

lol, cut overfenders look cool, but are those even legal? I think not lol, at least in Europe (well, most of Europe anyway)
