it's hard to find a car in a top-tier racing series (ALMS, Super GT, DTM, Nascar, F1, etc.) with rotas lol. if they're the same thing why wouldn't companies spend less money and just get those

I hope things work themselves out for you.

But in the defense of fake wheels... Maybe the real wheel companies would get more business if they dropped their prices. Their prices are inflated because they know people will still want and buy them and they still meet their profit goals. If they were losing money, they would drop their prices so fast it would be ridiculous. Its all about supply n demand. By the way, might I remind you that half of Enkei's wheels are knock-offs of other wheels. I would hardly consider Enkei a poser company.

Enkei has been around longer than most of the "main brand" wheels.

Rota has been around longer than konig, racinghart and many others. and they aren't the only company that plays off of other companies' designs.

all those pictures josh posted are not under normal driving conditions. Any other wheel would have been foobarred there as well.

Rota's crack instead of bend under extremely high impact loading because they are cast wheels. Cast material is more brittle than forged or machined billet material. That doesn't mean it's a whole lot weaker though. They still have very similar ultimate strengths. Brittle just means it's more prone to fail by cracking rather than fail by plastic deformation. Any cast wheels will look just like the rotas when they hit something that hard.

edit: High end racing uses forged wheels mostly. rotas are not forged.

This whole argument just reminds me of middle school kids who pick on the kid wearing K-mart sneakers because he doesn't have Nikes. Copying goes on in all markets. Are you going to pick on someone because they bought Wal-Mart brand apple juice instead of Motts? To say you are buying wheels just because of the respect you will get for them is retarded. Buy what you like, grow up, and stop hating.

Yeah, it reminds me of middle school too, when we used to f**k with kids who STOLE clothing from someone else's gym locker and wore them the next day, be it shoes, shorts, shirts, whatever...

They're not off-brand, they're counterfeit, stolen, theft of intellectual property. They're not something that was designed to look sort of like another wheel, it's the exact same design used by a company that didn't develop the wheel to begin with.

I guess I'll start releasing all your guys' tunes as my own, as long as I put ROTA in the tune name it shouldn't be a big deal right? Apparently that's an excuse for blatant theft

I think you are directing your hate towards the wrong companies. Rotas are not true counterfeits because they never claim to be the actual real wheel. They come with Rota centercaps and Rota decals. There are companies out there that make straight up counterfeit wheels... complete with advan/volk/rays/etc centercaps, decals and etchings. Most of these aren't even safe enough to meet the international standards that Rota wheels meet to get the embossed stamps such as "JWL" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JWL_standard . If your going to hate, hate on those companies. Rota started out making replacement wheels for OEM wheels. Its what they do and they never claim to be the original. When they first started out making aftermarket style wheels they had some failures which is why they have a bad rep today. It shows there was more involved then just "copying" a design. They have to do a lot of testing and adjusting to get the proper certifications.

(IMG:http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XhfsQ7ELTCw/TRbw3UUqJmI/AAAAAAAAABw/OKyXCetvk4o/s1600/get-off-your-high-horse.jpg)

Just a side note, I have nothing against expensive wheels other than the fact that they are overpriced. If you have the money for them and don't mind blowing it, by all means, get them. I don't appreciate when people get on other people's cases about stuff like that though. There is absolutely nothing wrong with getting rotas if the person buying them is okay with that.

This is going wayyy too far now guys. At the end of the day, knock off wheels are like pirating music. Yeah, you know its wrong/illegal, but you do it anyway. Why, because, like many others out there you either can't afford, or can't justify the cost associated. I personally would have no problem buying rota (well, i wouldn't if i could afford them) as i don't have the money to get anything like that. For road cars, you're gonna buy the wheel for the looks, not the performance. Once you've picked a design you like, you're gonna go for the cheapest.

The difference is, you didn't re-create that from scratch (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

I'd say if you want to compare it to pixel terms. Rota references heavily without proper credit. lol

I don't think Rota hurt big companies much anyway. Because with the prices for the real deal, even with lower sale numbers they're probably making similar amounts of money anyway. Honestly Rota is probably the least of their worries, big companies could have had Rota taken out a LONG time ago by now if they were concerned I'm sure

Doesn't Rota also replicate wheels you cant buy anymore? So that would be a plus wouldn't it?

What would happen if Rota copied other off-brand wheels?
Is that just the lowest of the low?

There are other companies that copy rims as well. some of them have even copied rota's designs.

Even Konig has wheels which are copies of volk, work, gram lights and wantanabe wheels.

at least rota isn't doing this

^ my point exactly. lol

My Konigs are Advan RS-D knock-offs. The rims that Konig makes that aren't knock-offs are kinda ugly (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif)

I just love the fact that Konig rewinds:
(IMG:http://www.thezstore.com/store/graphics/00000001/large251063.jpg)

Are rip offs of watanabe's:
(IMG:http://www.hachiroku.com.au/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/wata_new.jpg)

Which are in turn rip-offs of minilites:
