You're still not getting the point.
IT'S NOT THE SAME THING. 2 Engines =/= 1 Engine And, it took a little more engineering than just sticking 2 vr6 engines together to get the w12. |

they arent even "stuck together", ther on one axle each, if they where in the same engine bay at the same time and they where only on one axle together, then ill be impressed

Thats how VW put it:
"A W12 engine is a twelve cylinder piston internal combustion engine in a W configuration. W12 engines are manufactured in two distinct configurations. One configuration uses four rows of three cylinders merged into two 'cylinder banks' (two narrow-angle VR6 engine blocks), coupled to a common crankshaft - as in Volkswagen Group W12." |

On the volkswagen w12 all 12 pistons run on one single crankshaft. It has 4 cylinder banks, not 2. (whoever wrote that quote doesn't know what one is apparently.) The reason why they use the two vr6 example is because they used the same bank angle for the two sides of the engine of 15 degrees. They did this so they could use the same cylinder head configuration as in the vr6. But that statement there is more of a metaphor used to help give an image of what the engine looks like to people that haven't seen it. No what it actually is.
fyi, a cylinder bank is a row of cylinders parallel to each other at one common angle around the crank. That's why the w12 has 4 banks. because cylinders appear at 4 different angles around the crank. |
