Okay as a birthday present my dad let me buy a 2.5L RWD GMC Sonoma pickup. It needs work but it's in a solid shape. I've been talking to my dad about our ideas on what to do. I have facilities to a workshop (my dad being the only qualified mechanic in town so I have access to his work) but the end idea is to make it driftable, my grassroots drifter, while remaining my daily too. I'm limited to lowest budget ever as I have no job, but I need to start pricing things up. Performance wise I just need better brakes and suspension, I'm not too bothered about power as its a light truck. I've found out the bolt pattern is super uncommon, being a 5x120.65, me and my dad are the worst when buying car parts online, so is there anywhere I should look for adapter plates? I want the PCD to be common so I can buy cheap knock off rims cause I'm broke as any tramp. Also me and my dad have thought about getting second han suspension arms and links from a car with the option of çoilovers, ie S chassis car. Also other little things like hydraulic handbrake, better steering wheel, bucket seats etc etc

I saw ur truck on fb and I gotta say, it has potential. I was gonna buy a 95 GMC sierra 1500 and do a 454 swap and make it a drift truck. But the truck was sold so I stopped my sketches for it. Here's a look at the rear for u to get ideas off of...ignore the s**tty s13

I've been talking to this dude at work, he used to have an SR 240 with full supermade for his daily drifter. He was telling me how sr20's are awful when something little goes wrong with it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/gasp.gif)

I wouldnt do the mods of s chassis supension or stuff like that, if u want a drift pick up, get a hardbody.

I've got what I've got, I'm in a town in the middle of nowhere, I was lucky I found a small motored RWD manual vehicle. I'm drifting it none the less

I have had crazy ideas for a drift truck so if you need any help thinking of ways to do stuff or even just if something is possible I'm here lol. Or if u need a quick sketch. Lmao

Honestly? I'd bag it. You can still drift it then and daily it. Just raise the psi when you drift to stiffen it a little. That was my plan. But to start I'd just replace the basics that way u know it won't fail. Lower it a good amount and get good sway bars cuz trucks have slot of body roll. Also, a good set of front control arms would be useful. I would even look into tubular a-arms for it to save some weight. I know you have a tight budget but if you do it right from the start you wont have issues down the road.


Also, make sure to add a good roll cage. Not a bolt in one either. Those are flimsy and unsafe. Get a custom one build that hugs the roof line and pillars with the x brace in the rear.

And since I'm thinking of it...I would swap in a ford 9" rear with a 4-link setup. That would give you cheap gearing setups and very easy to find parts. And a ford 9" is very common.

RB isn't happening, way out of my budget. I'd probably end up sourcing any cheap inline 4 that's available to me if I need more power.

Okay on my mind right now is; swapping front suspension to something that I can later swap coilovers onto (Possibly from a Nissan or something of the like) lowering rear axle to match with blocks and swingers and also swapping the hubs or PCD size (It's 5x120.65 which is only common on BMW's and some Audis and VW's). Maybe swap the rear axle all together.

Problems with the truck are:
No battery (Being sorted this week)
Broken fuel pump (Has been replaced recently but untested)
Broken rear brake lines, so no rear brakes.
Messed up front bumper and mount for the front wing

Canopy is keeping my spare gas tank and gearbox from getting frozen and screwed up from the snow :L it'll go when less snow is about which will be around February haha the bumper is probably going to stay

noo dont get rid of the roof, its awesome for that night of picnick when u can invite the girl u like to sleep with you and evryone needs to sleep in tents and feel how cold the ground is
