Pixel Car Art _ Automotive chat _ Ed's SV650X

Posted by: Ed. Oct 3 2011, 09:37 PM

Hey. Well, I don't pixel at all nowadays, and this is why:

It's a 1999 Suzuki SV650X (Naked), 72bhp, 50ft/lbs, 650cc.
Considering she only weighs 165kg, that means 129mph (From a standstill in less than 10 seconds), 0-60 in 3.7 seconds, and I'm 17 years old. toothygrin.gif

This'll be a bit like MIV's topic for his Golf - Just updated with random happenings to do with it. I've recently got myself a rather tastefully paying job as-well, so updates will probably be a plenty... Enjoy toothygrin.gif

Posted by: Ed. Oct 3 2011, 10:21 PM

When I get paid by said job - This is the month I've gone from leaving Tesco and joining the new company, so I'm at this precise moment more poor than Africa toung.gif

Maybe you should pop down, as My house is on the A45...

Ta, Apart from the clock face of the rev counter, nothing is being repaired, just improved toung.gif
Why bother with the little things that just look pretty?

isn't your front tyre the wrong way round????

Posted by: Ed. Oct 11 2011, 09:37 PM

Alot of people ask that, and the awnser is no, trust me, i've been paranoid and checked it out myself a few times - it's an odd design that looks like it shouldn't work, but does very well - Michelin Road Pilot 2's.
That doesn't help my paranoia either though, because in the marketting photo's you'll find of them on google and such, they've turned them around so they look better xd.gif

Slight update on the SV650.

My bike, to comply with British laws was restricted to 33bhp, via a set of washers in the inlet manifolds, just after the carburettor. Legally, I must have these fitted untill two years after I passed my test. In it's 33bhp state, in comparison, it would keep up happily with a Ford Fiesta Zetec S, which are quite quick in their own right. But hardly spectacularly quick.

Well, I removed the restrictions yesterday and went for a 60 mile hard ride around my town. I can happily say, 125mph with a pillion (Someone sitting on the back for those of you who don't know) is completely possible, and the front end of the bike will sit happily 45 degrees in the air for 3 gears, up until 90mph without breaking a sweat.
I think this bike may soon turn into a bit of a hooligan machine...

I've still got clumps of mud in my bar ends and all up the engine casing; Got asked at work the other day why there were footprints on the petrol tank too laugh.gif

i still seriously think your front tyres the wrong way round. there designed to push the water out to the sides and being that way round draws the water to the middle and then you aquaplane (cant spell its about 12:30am here...)

seriously if you lose control when its wet and its because of lose of steering.... i warned you

You're like the 19th person to comment on that - They're on the right way round, trust me, I'd be dead by now if they're not. I've been on my hands and knees about 4 times to reassure myself that the arrows point the right way on the tires; it's just an awkward looking design

Posted by: Josн Nov 14 2011, 12:57 PM

i'd be willing to say ed knows more about his bike than we do

Posted by: Ed. Nov 14 2011, 11:24 PM

Kaboosh - just hit my 3,000th mile in 2 months of having her on the road - that's 29,004 miles on the clock toothygrin.gif

On another note - Cruising at 130mph for the best part of 20 miles is:
A- f**king expensive, burnt off half a tank like that;
B - Not good for motorcycle health, at least on something as small as a 650cc, it was sitting in 6th gear at 9,500rpm for a large portion of the time;
C - f**king exercise! my back, shoulders and neck muscles burn from the effort to hold myself against the wind-blast toung.gif I shall be the size of Mike Tyson if I keep this up!

And on a progress note: I've got a full service to do on the bike, so while I'm at it I'm gonna give her a f*cking good clean, and gonna clean up the clocks and surround, mine are a little bit f**ked...

Posted by: Mkid Nov 15 2011, 02:28 PM

lol, time for a new gauge?

Posted by: Ed. Nov 15 2011, 02:49 PM

Nooo, The tach face will be replaced, that's beyond saving, it's a common fault with the naked SV650's, they all do it given time...
The unit as a whole I'm just gonna sand flat then rattle can black, tidy it up that little bit, make it looks less like it's been stolen toung.gif

Thought I may also add, riding home from college today (Cba'd, left early) and I'm cruising down the A45, minding my own business at a happy 95mph - I check my mirrors out of impulse and there's flashing blue lights with an angry police man behind me... so to tell the truth, I did s**t myself, as I pulled into the middle lane to make my way to the verge to stop though, he barrels on past me - I actually giggled like a little school girl that I wasn't going to be getting any points toothygrin.gif

Posted by: Mkid Nov 21 2011, 05:32 PM

In England the license plate transfers with the vehicle? Here usually people hold on to their plates. My plate is the same one from my old Civic.

Posted by: Ed. Nov 21 2011, 06:46 PM

In the UK, each vehicle has a plate, and it stays that way, unless you pay the DVLA to personalise it, in which case it can be transferred

Posted by: Curtis Nov 21 2011, 09:58 PM

Yeah, it makes it easier for the police/insurers/DVLA to keep track of vehicles. Anyone can go on to the DVLA's website, punch in a reg plate and manufacturer name and they can get all the details of the car: engine size, colour, tax cost, currently taxed and mot'd etc...

your bike is awesome man. Here every plate stays with the car untill it is no running anymore. I think you can have a new plate in special cases but its pretty expensive, and you can't personalise it.

So...Nearly got crushed by a falling lampost earlier, a van driving down the oncoming lane veered off into the central reservation, destroying completely the grounding for it... serious swerving to avoid it, and as a result, my boxers quickly went brown...

Jusht thought I'd post up the recent toung.gif

I went coventry on Sunday, to meet curtis, Ben and Bazil - So of course it had to be wet and miserable weather, after getting lost trying to find a place to park in the city centre, I came off xd.gif The front end washed out on me and the bike just lid down the road on its side while i slid into a central reservation toung.gif

which means today I'm taking the time off work to fix what it broke:
Mirrors
Indicators
Headlight rattle
My bars don't point the right way (Forks are twisted in the yokes)
and I have broken the throttle switchgear

...Yay! haha

Posted by: Daniel. Dec 8 2011, 07:57 PM

what you didn't see is that ed nearly knocked ben out for saying that when he picked the bike up xd.gif

Posted by: Ed. Dec 10 2011, 12:09 AM

Haha xd.gif

Talking of tires, pulled the bike out of the shed yesterday to get working on fixing it - and I've got a f*cking puncture on my rear tire angry.gif
£125 for a rear tire, without being fitted, and mine still had about 75% tread still left in it! Fuming! Not been my week...

Posted by: Helmasaur King Dec 10 2011, 01:18 AM

awesome

Posted by: Mkid Dec 10 2011, 10:22 PM

shop around man. You can get way better deals on bike tires than car tires if you have the hookup

Posted by: Ed. Dec 11 2011, 10:58 PM

It's a slow puncture, and after the extravagances of Christmas Shopping, I don't have the money for a new tire. So just pumping up day in and day out until I get paid at the end of the month - Unfortunately, the cheapest deal for the tires I have on there (which are, I may just note, f*cking brilliant) is £125 Fitted. So I'll be taking R.A.D. motorcycling up on that deal...

Also, will have to get you guys a video of this - but the bike's starting popping and banging more often now on overrun - So much so that I set off an alarm of a parked police car as I backed off the throttle to roll past it...making the officer who was standing next to it jump in it and barrel arse it after me... Stern words and a slap on the wrist later and he's told me to get a quieter exhaust as he reckons mine isn't street legal.

Lol f*ck him toung.gif

Posted by: Ed. Dec 18 2011, 10:46 PM

Puncture fixed. Exhaust gutted (She's now alot deeper and louder.) Bars straightened. Full service. Tweaked carb tuning. Quick action throttle. (so on original setting comparison, opening up the throttle to full now takes the same amount of twist as it would take to do 1/3rd throttle normally.)

smile2.gif Winter riding will be fun.

...That didn't actually just happen, but, This weekend's meant to be a little more, nice, if you will, so i may go for a christmas ride and take my camera with me, just for you PCA faggots ;D

Posted by: Ed. Dec 25 2011, 11:58 PM

Lol f**k black ice, crashed again today, as i picked it up, i realised my gear lever had snapped off, my engine was off and i was in 4th... lol toung.gif

Posted by: Brand0n. Dec 26 2011, 04:35 AM

Are the crashes not that bad or are you just manly lol?

Posted by: Mkid Dec 26 2011, 05:34 AM

Posted by: Ed. Dec 26 2011, 11:41 AM

Deffo a bit of both ;D

The crashes are enough to have a few people call ambulances for me when i've just crashed, but i tend to pick it up, push it to a side, smoke and then swear alot, then just carry on toung.gif

this is a little bit of damage from the accident yesterday, that's my gear lever, thats meant to have a peg at the end so i can push it up or down to change gear... so my bike was stuck in 4th untill i lent down and pushed it down once or twice with my hand to get it into 2nd/3rd

Posted by: Curtis Jan 16 2012, 10:52 AM

Moar updates needed, the 3 other main build threads are at the top of the page, yours needs to be there too!

Posted by: Ed. Jan 21 2012, 03:27 AM

not much to update on, weather's s**tty - new gear and clutch lever though, and a flyscreen, i'll take some pics and s**t when i've done the brakes when i've been paid - hopefully the video too.

Posted by: DLuZive Jan 21 2012, 07:04 AM

hey my dad rode his dad's 1950 velocette at a historic meeting then the rear brake locked up at top speed (about 60/70mph) downhill... then the next day when the events were almost over the whole gear lever snapped off so he had to use a screw driver lol

anyway cool bike, good luck with it and stuff, i really want to get a road bike when im older

Posted by: Ed. Feb 14 2012, 10:10 PM

Only photo even related loosely to the bike for ages, got updates coming next month!

She's a filthy little slut that loves chasing the sun <3

Posted by: Ed. Feb 29 2012, 04:35 PM

Lost my job. Things need to be done. Bike may be getting a bit faster and a bit more illegal very quickly...
Different sprocket to change the gearing, K&N filters, exhaust will be changed to a straight through item (Which to be fair, it isn't too far off anyway), plates will get smaller and the plastics for the rear end will be gone. Need fast!

Posted by: Ed. Mar 2 2012, 05:57 PM

f**k.

Open man hole in the middle of the road, no signs, lights, cones or anything to say there's a hole like that in the floor... i sorta flew over it at 90mph and destroyed my front wheel on impact with the far side of the hole....

I feel like you should be able to take lawful action against the city or whoever is responsible for maintaining the streets for that one.

Posted by: Ed. Mar 7 2012, 01:24 AM

I've sent off photos and a written complaint to the council to see what they want to do about it, with a demand for a reply within 7 working days, so we'll see how that chases up.
Upon closer inspection, it's also come to my attention that my front brake disks have multiple fractures and cracks from the impact... So they need changing too. Fuuuck.

Posted by: Curtis Mar 7 2012, 05:32 PM

I'm gonna hazard a guess that they'll reply with a snotty response along the lines of: the damaged caused is only likely to have occurred at speeds exceeding that of the posted speed limit. You either chase it up and effectively admit to speeding, or they tell you to back off :/

Posted by: J.red Mar 8 2012, 02:43 AM

then you tell them to take a bike directly over it at the posted speed limit and see what happens.

Posted by: Faяaп. Mar 8 2012, 02:45 AM

Posted by: Ed. Mar 9 2012, 01:59 AM

On that like ball on a bat

Posted by: Ed. Mar 12 2012, 04:05 PM

On it's way to me:

2 front brake disks
Front Wheel
Front wheel Spindle
Speedo Drive
Throttle switchgear
Grips
Clutch Lever
Rear brake Lever

Had the bike apart today with a friend's CBR600, got my bike tidied up a bit and finally put back to one piece. Hadn't been touched since June, so we got her running and ridaeble again. Parts will start coming in soon, and we will have a faster better SV for me! Finally!

TLDR; Photos:

Posted by: Curtis Dec 10 2012, 12:37 PM

so are you keeping the sv now? or are you just getting her roadworthy again?

Posted by: Ed. Dec 12 2012, 12:31 AM

SV's being kept, yay for having a job! She'll be coming back better than before, Although i'm torn as to do what :|
I either make her road worthy, keep for a year, sell, get a 1000 or something. Or, I make her epic! In which case I'm speakimg already to JHS racing about the cost of a 700cc, or 800cc Race engine rebuild... In which case I'll be hanging onto her for a while
