I'm now in the possession of my fathers 1967 Datsun RL 411 Bluebird. The same one you guys and gals see in my Avatar. The opportunity came and now I'm currently in the progress of rebuilding it back up to street worthy condition. It's got a long history being my fathers project car since 1979. He's had a few 411's and a 510 before this one. Now he's passed it down to me to keep alive. I'll try to update this topic as often as possible to keep you all up to date.

For those who are not familiar with the car. The Datsun 411 was the precursor to the now famed 510.
It was a success to the Bluebird series of the Datsun brand. The 411 came in two main versions, the PL and RL. The PL came with a 1300 cc 4 cylinder inline engine, while the RL came with the bigger 1600 cc I4 engine.

My father converted his from a PL to RL back in 1980, 1981. He has a list of his modifications that I'll post soon.

1598cc R Type Engine
Standard transmission: 4 speed
Modification list

• Cylinder head shaved .080
• 30210-20111 original Datsun Heavy Duty pressure plate.
• Custom 2" exhaust from manifold to end.
• Free flow muffler.
• Keep distributor set at 8 degrees advanced at idle.
• Balanced drive shaft.
• Helper springs on rear shocks to eliminate rear sag. Improved center of gravity.
• Five leaf rear leaf springs from a 1978 Datsun 620 pickup.
• Custom rear anti-sway bar.
• Custom steering wheel.
• Superior Magnesium wheels.
• Cooper 185-70R13 tires.
• License: Have Fun. Taken from the old mid 1990's Nissan commercial slogan.

Believe it or not. This will own a stock PL 510 from a standing 1/8 or 1/4 mile run by 3 car lengths or more. Built specifically for red light to red light. But rarely practiced.
Has never been to an official dragstrip. Street only.
Secret: The pressure plate. Much more horsepower at the rear wheels.
Possible problems with pressure plate: Stripped 2nd gear and later a ring gear in the differential.
All too easy to repair the transmission.
All too easy to replace the differential.

still a very nice little car, i remember seeing it back when wangan city wasn't a graveyard. can't wait to see what it's like after you fix it up.


is that a s13 i spy in the background of 11th picture though? o.o

Yep, The black one in the other pic has an RB25 in it. Was built for drift. Dude wants to put it in his 240. Iirc, he said that the red 240 has the KA series in it. Dude isn't the social type, so I don't know too much on his plans.

Next step on the 411 is to drain the gas tank, clean the carbs and clean up the fuel system.

Here are some new pictures.






So far, the two carbs have been taken off. Right now, they're being cleaned up. It's a very unique set up. My father and his friend say they've haven't seen that design since the car was built. Although the plan might be to upgrade the carbs to a newer set up. As the current goal is to get all we can out of the current engine before swapping.
The engine has also been drained of the oil that has been sitting in it for 16 years. Pitch black, yet oddly warm when I pulled the plug to drain. Oil filter decided to be a bitch and cling on. After some work, we got it off. Also I gained access to the gas tank behind the rear seats. Exterior looks fine, yet that doesn't say anything about whats in it. After the carbs are cleaned, the old fuel lines will be taken out and replaced with steel braided ones later on. The gas tank might also be replaced with a fuel cell that'll go in the trunk where the spare tire goes. The main goal is to get the car running again. After that I'll work on getting the body restored.

Right now, it's a restoration to get it in the condition my father left off with (Like the first pictures in this topic). Once that's done then the mods come. The only mods that might be needed for this restoration is a fuel cell. Because I do not know the condition of the gas tanks interior.

New Update:
Carburetors are finished. Plus a new starter, fuel pump, fuel filter and lines and oil additive was bought.

Update: Original gas tank is dead. Took it out, looked inside, seen rust city along with an overwhelming blast of turpentine.
Going to make a road trip to Jegs in Columbus to get a fuel cell and other goodies. More to come.
