I always thought that Aussie stuff was way superior to our crap, but this article puts a different perspective in mind...
http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2008/02/o...e-in-australia/ So apparently all those full-size cars Down Under aren't really the perfect dream cars that American enthusiasts want in the USA. But lemme ask you Australians; is most of this article actually true? Because if its true, then great, now the late model Pontiac GTOs and G8s don't look so good anymore... I always thought that Aussie stuff was way superior to our crap, I always thought opposite. Commodores haven't really been good, they've just been cheap and good cars for their price. Most of the cars I see are Toyotas though. Back in 60-80s the cars were pretty cool, but their engines weren't as great, sometimes. My astra has had heaps of services, but my Dad's commodore is pretty good, but it's ex-police or something we've figured out from recites and other things. I dont get this topics point though :/ VE commos and the VZ monaro are fine This post has been edited by DLuZive: Mar 12 2011, 12:31 PM |

Most holden sedans from the late 70s right up till the mid 2000s were facelifted opels (IMG:style_emoticons/default/toung.gif) and the Fords were basically euro fords made a bit bigger.

Just searched the net and it seems like many of the US-spec Monaros are now having reliablity problems.
Oh well. Time to wait for Ford UK and Opel now... |

Aussie cars have only come around a little bit better from the Ford BA/BF Onwards and the Holden VE... Ie. They are possibly able to match up with 10-15 year old Japanese/European cars lol
The rest of the crap is just that crap. They're cheap hulks of metal big enough to fit 4-5 aussie 'blokes' ie big fellas but don't expect much engineering, refinement, etc... Even their luxury models are cheap as... And don't ask your electronics to survive past 5years without issue. The German/British engineered cars seem to fair better but they too only have recently stepped up a notch. The older models like the TS Astra had some big issues here and there that made ownership erm... Almost as good as owning an old Alfa... |

I hear loads of stories about the Astra G/TS, all this that it's really unreliable and things like that, but my uncle has one now, and it has never broken down. My granddad has had one and it too was fine. They are also still quite common. These will all be built in the british factory at ellesmere port, I wonder if the german and aus plants were doing something wrong (IMG:style_emoticons/default/toung.gif)

Oh phew, I thought you meant the nice looking Fords and Holdens. The older models like the TS Astra had some big issues here and there that made ownership erm... Almost as good as owning an old Alfa... Would've been nice to know that before my mum got ripped off.. lol |

What's so bad about it? the car comunity equivilent of Communism... The sites glorious leader won't hesitate to ban anyone who speaks in opposition to what they believe. plus they're articles are full of bias often unfairly ragging on american vehicles while pushing japanese cars up on a golden pedistal... not a very reliable source of automotive info... |
