Pixel Car Art _ Automotive chat _ The perfect first car.

Posted by: Daniel. Nov 16 2010, 06:18 PM

Hey fags (A fag is a cigar, usually a Havana Cuban cigar)

I've been wondering what the perfect first car would be, not for me, but for anyone. Pick one and post some reasons why.

Mine:

Golf 4
-Not very expensive
-Has a lot of tuning potential
-Good eco-s**t, they don't use as much fuel as jred's camaro

Now your turn, PCA!

Posted by: DMC-12 Nov 16 2010, 06:54 PM

Ford Sierra

-Cheap insurance for a 2.0 car
-Cosworth replica possibilities :3
-Great for Drifting
-loads of parts available
-cheap to maintain.
-can achieve 30+ MPG

I'm thinkin aboot one toothygrin.gif

Posted by: Andrew Nov 16 2010, 06:59 PM

nissan silvia 240sx kouki
- s13 version
- rwd
- very cool
- cheap (like 3,000dlls)
- parts avaliable everywhere

Little Tykes Cozy Coupe

Posted by: J.red Nov 16 2010, 08:18 PM

Honda Civic or Accord

Pros:
Later 80s to mid 90s models can be found very easily and cheap.
Reliable. As long as you keep the usual maintenance up, it won't break down.
Easy and affordable to maintain.
Great on gas. (Even with the mods on mine I get 26-28mpg city and 38 mpg highway)
Easy to find oem spec replacement parts for reasonable prices.
Abundance of aftermarket parts and tuning potential.
Lots of engine swap possibilities.
Huge fan following and expert experience to go to for help.
Simple construction makes it easy to work on without hassle.
available in many different models (Civic: hatch, coupe, sedan. Accord: Wagon, Coupe, Sedan)

Cons:
People will almost guaranteed call you a ricer no matter what you have or haven't done to it.

Posted by: Unox. Nov 16 2010, 08:45 PM

Mazda RX7 Savanna (FC3S)

Pros:

Dat Brap
Rotary Powered
Sports Coupe
Major Chick points cause your car wins
Most people favor the FD, leaving FCs cheap to purchase

Cons:

Rotary Engines are a bitch to fix, when broken, in comparison to piston engines

Posted by: Rywired Nov 16 2010, 08:51 PM

Civic EF

-Cheap(I can get a rolling shell for $400 toothygrin.gif)
-Great on gas, even with a newbie build
-as jred said parts are easy to find and replace.

Posted by: Kubason Nov 16 2010, 09:01 PM

Golph 3 1.6
pretty cheap
cheap parts
not too strong for first car
still good going
lots of tooning parts
Škoda Felicia 1.6 1996 ---> 1999
pretty much the same as golf
It also has ABS, ESP, ETC.

well it is mostly for europian guys

Posted by: uiui Nov 16 2010, 09:05 PM

Yugo!

-Very cheap 100$-1000$
-Average speed
-Great for town cruising
-That is it

i want a euro accord sad.gif they looks nicer than the ones we got here imo

Posted by: Hellrazr Nov 16 2010, 10:46 PM

1974-1984 Volkswagen Rabbit/Golf

Pro's:
~ Vary reliable and safe (like most cars if taking care of will be your best friend)
~ Great on fuel if anything go with a diesel yeah they stink but the flue savings are crazy but im not saying not to go with a petrol ether the pretty good on fuel only when stock
~ There is many little tricks though out the model lines (for exampled you can swap parts with a newer VW/Audi) like motors and suspension parts also some exterior bits plus interior stuff
~ Many after-market parts are available and in most cases are bolt ons and easy to install
~ Insurance is resalable ( As in most case's it depend on you age and driving history)
~ Very spacious and comfortable
~ Easy to park and maneuver

Con's
~ Sunroof can tend to leak and cause the A pillars to rot out
~ The trim can cause some of the body to rot (like rain tray and fender flares)
~ Not common as they use to be(so parts can be hard to find)
~ No power steering so it can feel heavy in some case's
~ Some interior bits tend to brake over the years

Posted by: .ecyrB Nov 16 2010, 11:01 PM

- You win
- It is fast
- $20K
- I like it

Cons
- Insurance
- Defection
- RWC
- Fuel
- Crashing

Naah, Corolla is a great first car. Or a Golf. Or a Magna, or a Lancer (Mirage in the US) Or a Civic, those can become beasts, or a Starlet GT, I have seen one so fast it be like: WOAH! and also a very sexy one.

IMO, none of those would be good first cars. They're all either cool cars, favorite cars, sporty cars, fast cars, whatever. But that's not what should be looked at when you're just getting your drivers license. Around here, kids start looking to buy their first car around 15-16 years old.
1. Half those cars won't be anywhere near the price range someone is looking for at that age.
2. People aren't going to be able to put up with the maintenance and repair a 26-36 year old VW requires.
3. New drivers + fast cars = dead drivers
The whole point of buying a first car is to have something cheap and reliable you can learn how to drive in, something you can learn how to maintain too. If you can make it far enough that you've learned those things and the car is still in good shape, then you can start to modify it or then buy something like this list... but the reality is, most new drivers end up trashing their first car in one way or another, whether it by through accidents on the road or improper maintenance.

Posted by: Daniel. Nov 17 2010, 03:34 PM

Fully agree with Jared, he knows what he is talking about toothygrin.gif

I have another one:

Mazda MX-5/Miata NA (1989-1998)

Pros
-Great value.
-Maintenance is cheap.
-Insurance and taxes are cheap.
-Can't catch up with a Skyline, RX7, Silvia or whatever.
-If you have a hardtop version, you will not be called a girl or a homo.
-Great on fuel.

Cons
-They tend to rust.
-If you get a soft top, you'll be called a girl or a homo.
-The interiors are pretty s**t in most cases.

Can't think of more arguments toung.gif

Posted by: FnF_Racer Nov 17 2010, 07:43 PM

good first car: small engine, mostly hatchback, and pretty basic.

Honda civic EG 1.6, Opel Corsa 1.4 8V/16V or 1.6 8V/16V, VW Golf 3 or 4/Polo/Lupo, Ford Escort of 1999, Ford fiesta.

also something that is cheap, like 2000 euro MAX. wink.gif
and never buy at a dealer. wink.gif

......

wow, sounds nothing like my first car i bought. ohmy.gif
Opel Astra G 1.8 16V with almost every option, 5000+, very good shape, and insurance f**ks me good.... toung.gif
oh, and bought by a garage.

sorry jred but your wrong, a honda city turbo goes for 1 grand backwards around here

and i dont think honda citys are that fast, and they are very reliable and cheap

Honda City Turbo

1982-1986
Same story as with the vw, finding the parts and being able to maintain a 24-28 year old car as a first car isn't something for most new drivers.

Posted by: M.I.V. Design. Nov 19 2010, 04:13 PM

golf mk2-3-4
vento/jetta

-cheap (insurance to)
-if you need parts you'll find m fast
-almost all garages know VW so they can fix it
-if you don't have to cash to get it fixed by a garage you can do it, VW is easy (click 'n' play)
-the engines are awesome and if you take good care they will last forever
-ok ok, they have rust, buts its not that its hard to fix if you have the know how
-brand new parts are always available, just find the dealers
-there are nuf golfs, so if you need something you can steal it probably in a radius of 0.5km around your driveway

or you have to buy it of a lover, but then you need to reach deap in the pockets. wink.gif

Yes I can have that car but what if cops stop me?They will say ''Sorry but you drive too strong car'' and I will pay for that. And whats more stupid is that you can drive swift who have small hp and small weight so its fast pocket rocket and you cant drive passat who have 100+ but weights like a whale lol .

Posted by: J.red Nov 10 2012, 06:33 PM

Faran, in the US and Canada, there aren't many that fit that class. BBut I still think that's a stupid restriction. People are going to be driving these little 70hp econoboxes around and then you'll have those guys that turn 24 and go straight to 400hp. They aren't going to know how to handle it and people will get hurt.

anyways, I still stand by my statement that civics are a great first car. 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th generations probably being the most available and easiest to maintain. The more stock the better when it's your first car. You can literally learn how to fix just about anything with a civic because they are super user friendly cars especially when it comes to repairs and maintenance.

To be fair 100bhp can be rapid in the right car, my old arosa was f*cking quick, and that was dyno'd at 75, even though it should've been 100.

vtec

yeah, birdman got one as first car

Posted by: KVcustoms Nov 11 2012, 08:11 AM

you know, power isnt everything. if you have 200hp, but your cars weight is 2 tonnes, it wont go very fast, but if your cars weight is 900 kilo's, it will go quick as f***

Posted by: Curtis Nov 11 2012, 10:47 AM

Quite.

On topic, good first cars imo:

Lupo/Arosa
MK4 Fiesta (mk3's are going back up in price now)
Renault Clio (4 of my friends had one at some point, must be doing something right!)
Pug 106
Fiat Panda (Look s**te, handle s**te, but good runners and cheap to insure)

And as a friend of mine has rightfully proven
1973 MGB GT

f**k off please you're not funny at all.

And yes Clios are quite cool and fun to drive. That said, I want a Clio Williams toung.gif

Posted by: DMC-12 Nov 11 2012, 12:22 PM

So basically, for a first car, nothing japanese (insurance) and nothing with more than a 1.4 toung.gif

But yeah curtis I was looking into an MGB too, but they've really shot up in price in the last few years.

Posted by: Curtis Nov 12 2012, 11:43 AM

My mate bought his for £1.8km good runner, body work could do with some attention but the shell is solid

Posted by: Nick47 Nov 12 2012, 02:21 PM

I'd get a Ford Focus as my first car. They're not very expensive, they're practical and somewhat fuel-efficient.

You neither.

Well, basically depends in the zone you are living at that moment.

There are places than having a BMW is more cheap/expensive than other countries.

But,
the perfect car for a first one,
-a car you can pay, i mean, petrol, maintenance, insurance...
-not much faster, a 2.0 is cool, but the insurance is gonna touch your balls, if you can pay it, go ahead
take care, that you are going to have your first accident, before or after, so you may need to buy a new car after that
-something old, 90's cars are pretty good, also from 2000, 2001...

anyway, buy the car you want, in your limits, be realist lol, but yeah, you can have an evo, working hard, you can have, lol

Here, the bests cars you can have, well, Saxos, 106's... Also an old Honda, like a Civic or a 96 accord vtec is a great choice, 2.2 vtec and 150 horses is not that bad.

Im not going to listen to what I said, my first car is going to be the 406, and because i dont have much money, because i would have the v6 one.

I wasn't even trying to be funny.

Now get the f**k out of my topic.

Posted by: BKTunes Nov 12 2012, 07:04 PM

VW is a good option, my first car is an '07 VW Jetta GLI, and insurance is only like 120 a month. Most people would probably have to go with MK4 or 3, because my car payment is 300 a month, and most people are still in school when they get their first car. I have a full time job so I have no trouble with the payments of it.

It's also really good on gas, reliable, decently quick if you get a GLI or GTI, good brakes and handling, and mine handles snow easily, no problem at all.

I lold

Posted by: BKTunes Nov 12 2012, 11:48 PM

You just have to take care of it. I realize that not everyone knows how to take care of a car like this, people trying to put the cheapest gas in, on-synthetic oil, all that bulls**t. But for someone who's not a complete idiot it'll be perfectly fine.

Posted by: nhra1625 Nov 12 2012, 11:58 PM

not that it is the perfect first car, but it was for me...

1990 Ford Thunderbird
3.8L v6
30k miles
light crystal blue color
no rust
fresh clear
2 owner car

but the perfect new first car would be a 2013 dodge dart:
ugly af
no power
discrace to the dart heritage
ew

that is my opinion though

Posted by: Henrique. Nov 13 2012, 12:32 AM

VWs doesn't need to be cheaper, or realiable. They kick asses errday allday

Pretty sure even in Urop you can find an equivalent of a cheap light RWD pick up.

Posted by: Oggy Nov 18 2012, 07:45 AM

My first is/was an '01 Wrangler.
Selling it this year, trying desperately to replace with a S13 hatch <3

Anyway the Jeep wasn't bad. Its cheap, RWD, iconic, tough as nails, handles all weather and terrain like a boss, and chicks dig it in the summer with no doors or roof. wink.gif

My was the 4.0L I6 too so it had a little punch all things considered (like the fact that it is a steel box).

Downsides are it rusts like nothing else, and feels like it is going to disintegrate at highway speeds. smile2.gif
