Pixel Car Art _ Automotive chat _ Accordion

Posted by: Ben.H Sep 23 2011, 04:31 PM

Some of you may have seen http://www.pixelcarart.com/index.php?showtopic=42515 thread I made a couple of weeks ago. But if you didn't, my dad's LS400 was for sale, fast forward a bit and it sold. So obviously my dad was then without a car, now this is the 21st century and let's be honest, if you don't have a car, you're bollocksed. So the search was on, criteria was a sensible family car, under 2.0 and not silly money to buy and run (A lot like the Alfa he had before, but then sold, hmm...). Anyway a couple of days later he comes home with this

A 2001 Honda Accord 1.8i VTEC 'Sport' with 11 Months MOT for a very fair £750. Good buy I say, but as we all know some things are always too good to be true, and before we knew it, VTEC kicked in just a little bit too hard...

That is of course the car just after being towed home by a friend. The real story is that my dad actually bought the car with a slipping clutch, hence the decent price (Was originally up for £900). He thought he'd get at least a few more days out of it but it decided to f**k itself up on the way home, cue 6,000rpm and no movement. Still, one of them things. So now that's been replaced and it's all very good stuff.

We ordered a little something though...

Even though it looks like one it really isn't a dildo, or a vibrator for that matter. It is of course an über JDM tight dori dori dorifto sideways S14 AE86 Type-R 2JZ GT-R gear knob. Which means my dad now gets an extra 50bhp and he can drift his FWD car. So we fitted it, as you do.

The difference is immense, we beat a gay white and black Toyota with some stupid Japanese writing on it in a drift battle on the way home.

There's a list of jobs that need doing though, tidying it up mainly, you might be able to see the damage to the bumpers in the photos, the previous owner didn't really look after it too much tbh, so we'll get the outside tidied up, some new bumpers may be on the cards. Also, the interior is f**kING DISGUSTING, f**king smells of all sorts of nasty s**t and the seats have some weird stains. So the seats will be replaced ASAFP, my dad wants either the Recaro seats from the Type-R or the leather seats from the Executive trim level. But if I'm sly enough I may be able to get him to look aftermarket (If anyone's selling cheap Bride seats let me know). We may add some nice JDM influenced modifications too. Nothing too OTT, maybe some wind deflectors, a new steering wheel and some minor stickerage. The F18B2 engine isn't bad, not too sure if it's very tuneable, but tbh my dad's not too fussed about getting his hands dirty under the bonnet anyway, he would like some new wheels however and he did seem to like the idea of lowering springs, but we'll have to see how that pans out.

Anyway I've written WAY too much now

Posted by: the stigster Sep 23 2011, 04:41 PM

where can i get me one of those there gear sticks and how much is gunna have to come out my pocket?
shame about the car though, got a little project now

Posted by: Ben.H Sep 23 2011, 04:42 PM

Just search on eBay for "JDM Drift Knob", I think it cost us something like £30 with postage and stuff. And it's cool I think, many a time my dad's said "We'll get a project going", but there was never anything that could realistically be done until now

Posted by: Robb. Sep 23 2011, 04:50 PM

SWEET.
s**t's got potential.
Do it ASAMFPN.

RESPONSE

Posted by: Ben.H Sep 23 2011, 06:12 PM

Thank you Alex

I did some quick measurements with my (dad's) trusty tape measure. For this car to be reasonably 'flush' yet practical we should aim to lower it 50mm on some 9 inch wide wheels. My dad likes Rota Grids (Fake Volk TE37s basically, we can't afford real ones). Rota sell them in 15x7 and 15x8 sizes. The standard wheels are 16x8, so we could put on some small spacers to get it sitting pretty.

cheers, id love to get a project going but my dads not really into it and neithers my step dad, so i got to go solo and i have no money to get one started... sucks

Posted by: Ben.H Sep 23 2011, 06:50 PM

Nah it doesn't light up Andrew, not that I know of anyway

Uiui, I am sorry that I'm not as JDM tight as you are, I'll try harder in future

@the stigster; Yeah I'm pretty lucky that my dad appreciates nice cars, that said everything has potential so if you can convince them to let you work on it

Posted by: Ben.H Sep 23 2011, 07:37 PM

Alright then. It sold last week to some Romanian guys, won't be seeing it again now lol

Posted by: Mkid Sep 23 2011, 08:06 PM

I'm not going to lie, that shift knob is retarded, especially in a Honda.

Posted by: Ben.H Sep 23 2011, 08:07 PM

Why?

Posted by: Mkid Sep 23 2011, 08:19 PM

Its a giant pink shift knob inside of a honda... need I say more?

Posted by: Ben.H Sep 23 2011, 08:19 PM

It's called "Having a laugh with a cheap car". I don't see what's wrong with Hondas anyway

Posted by: Mkid Sep 23 2011, 08:20 PM

nothing is wrong with Honda's. Its just usually that's something you do to a drift or VIP car... and even then I think its stupid.

Posted by: Ben.H Sep 23 2011, 08:21 PM

Dude, it's a gearknob, there's more important things to worry about on a car

Posted by: Brand0n. Sep 23 2011, 08:21 PM

I've never seen a Euro Accord before, but I like it haha it looks pretty cool. The tails remind me of Chaser. wub.gif <33

BAHAHAHAHA I just saw this.

Edit - Uh oh pointless.

Is there any more motor work that you know of that needs to be done on the car?

Posted by: Ben.H Sep 23 2011, 08:27 PM

But that knob doesn't have the humour aspect of the dildo knob. For the record the standard knob is very similar to that, just with black writing

Posted by: Mkid Sep 23 2011, 08:32 PM

*sadface* y u change nice knob to stoopid 1. I don't like when people do stupid stuff to a nice car just to be funny or follow a trend. I saw some guy at a car show hit his S13 with a hammar and etch words into the paint to make it look like a missile drifter. Pisses me off.

Posted by: Ben.H Sep 23 2011, 08:33 PM

lol wat. You can't compare changing a gearknob to hammering bodywork

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjy_7haflaM

Here's a photo I forgot to put up

Blue magic tree swag. Also just saw Brandon's edit, no there's none that we know of, it seems to run well enough, if something breaks it'll just get fixed, provided it isn't terminal, because that s**t would ruin my day

Posted by: Mkid Sep 23 2011, 08:45 PM

I just ask that you please change it back eventually after you've had your laugh. I really hate those shift knobs. lol

Posted by: Brand0n. Sep 23 2011, 09:03 PM

Ah that's pretty cool bud. toothygrin.gif Looks like a fun car to drive.

And duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude I like the shift knob. It makes you really jdm h0m13.

Posted by: Ben.H Sep 23 2011, 10:25 PM

Okay, here's a list of modifications me and my dad discussed and that we'd like to do. In no particular order

- New headunit with iPod compatibility
- New speakers
- Subwoofer, nothing OTT, just something that give us some moderate bass and doesn't take up too much room or looks s**t
- New numberplates in different sizes
- Remove the 'Accord' and 'Sport' badges
- New wheels/tyres
- Lowering
- Laguna splitter, or an OEM front bumper with foglights and a lip, if such exists
- Wind deflectors
- Minor stickerage
- Spinners
- New exhaust, something that makes a nicer noise but isn't tacky or anything, nothing to in your face
- Paint cam cover, not sure what colour, not red though, don't want anyone to think we're trying to make it like a Type-R, because it isn't, performance wise anyway
- New seats, either the Type-R Recaros, Executive leather seats or maybe aftermarket ones
- New steering wheel, something swag like Nardi if my dad's feeling to splash out a bit
- Shark fin aerial
- Godfather or dixie horn

Along with repairing all the damage, there's some stuff that needs sorting, interior light isn't working for instance

This is what we want to do anyway, of course it's all down to money really

Nice! I'm back.. just to comment on this. Love these accords, I believe the 2.2 typeV model has some of the bodyparts you're looking for.. (e.g. bumpers?) and I wouldn't put a nardi on it dude.. just cause it has a drivers airbag and its a daily, keep it safe.

To all you's bitchin' about the gearknob, it's not your car, you've stated your opinion, Bne likes it, it's just for a laugh, lets all chill eh?

Okay, here's a list of modifications me and my dad discussed and that we'd like to do. In no particular order

- New headunit with iPod compatibility Keep an eye out at Aldi, My headunit was £30 from there
- New speakers Measure the door speakers you have, and pinch some from an executive car at a scrappers
- Subwoofer, nothing OTT, just something that give us some moderate bass and doesn't take up too much room or looks s**t Same again, but you will need an amp to power it
- New numberplates in different sizes I'm sure you could get a cheap set of 'show' plates online, just make sure you
- Remove the 'Accord' and 'Sport' badges First thing to do on your list, boil a kettle, get something thin, strong, but not sharp, and ease them away. Tar remover will see off all the gunk
- New wheels/tyres I've got no advice here, just see what you can get from another higher model
- Lowering If you're gonna lower it, don't f**k about with cheapskate stuff here, get genuine stuff, doesn't have to be expensive, just no cutting springs or anything silly like that
- Laguna splitter, or an OEM front bumper with foglights and a lip, if such exists just hit up the 'bay
- Wind deflectors these will probably be quite expensive on account of their rarity, so be careful
- Minor stickerage bombing is always fun, just grab yourself a stickerbomb book from amazon or ebay
- Spinners the f**k.
- New exhaust, something that makes a nicer noise but isn't tacky or anything, nothing to in your face as a general rule, cat-backs will provide a better noise than if you just buy a back-box/tailpipe combo, but is naturally more expensive
- Paint cam cover, not sure what colour, not red though, don't want anyone to think we're trying to make it like a Type-R, because it isn't, performance wise anyway just look for other details in the bay, and colour code accordingly
- New seats, either the Type-R Recaros, Executive leather seats or maybe aftermarket ones just ebay something from a higher model, see how easy it is to switch runners to a different car to really open up the options
- New steering wheel, something swag like Nardi if my dad's feeling to splash out a bit just leave it, if you must, look for a nicer wheel from a newer honda, at least you can keep the airbag
- Shark fin aerial make sure its a genuine one and not one of those s**tty door hangers off ebay
- Godfather or dixie horn demontweeks has everything you need for that

Along with repairing all the damage, there's some stuff that needs sorting, interior light isn't working for instance

This is what we want to do anyway, of course it's all down to money really

curtis is cool guy :F

Posted by: Ben.H Sep 24 2011, 09:05 PM

Curtis, I've already got links sorted for most of the stuff xd.gif That being said I appreciate the info. Think we'll be saving up for lowering and wheels next, found http://www.venommotorsport.com/product_details.php?id=38683&manufacturer=Venom&category=Suspension springs, this was after I saw an advert in a magazine, I'll be searching properly for a good compromise between quality and value tomorrow, 35mm drop is enough. As far as wheels go, we'll be after 17" wheels, 9" inch wide on the rear and 8.5" up front, the fitment is 4x114.3 so if anyone knows any sweet wheels that aren't ridiculously expensive let us know, we'll have plenty of time before we can actually afford both (That said I'll be in a job soon, hopefully, so that'll speed things up a little bit). As far as modifications we'll go from the most expensive to the cheapest, so after lowering and wheels we'll fix the bodywork, then probably ICE, after that it'll just be smaller things like the splitter, aerial and all of that

That said some modifications are incredibly cheap so we might do the properly cheap ones now and get 'em out the way, like the debadging, we did that earlier, removed the rear Accord and Sport badge, still got some of that s**t left from the Sport badge though. Might see about getting the camshaft cover painted also

I'm gonna check out some Honda forums and such, hopefully I can pick the brains of other Honda owners and see what's what. It'd be cool if we could get this car on display at http://www.japfest.co.uk/ next year

Edit: Dat front bumper/fog light assembly/door mirrors/grille

http://www.wheeldude.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=335_336_396

These guys usually have really good prices. Not sure if they do international shipping though.

Also, your talking about lowering your car and super wide wheels but have not mentioned anything about offset. You sure these are going to fit properly?

Posted by: Brand0n. Sep 25 2011, 04:08 PM

Psh who needs wheels that fit properly these days. trollolololm[1].png

Posted by: Mkid Sep 25 2011, 04:16 PM

Well if you don't want your fender to shred your tire like a cheese grater or end up with wheels that don't fit cuz they are hitting the inside of your fender... then you should look into it. Your safest bet would be to find a pic of an accord that's lowered as much as you will be with wheels that you think fit perfect and then find out the wheel specs and if any extra modification was needed. If you can't find any information, I can help you out if you measure some clearances of the stock wheels for me. I can let you know what will fit, what will poke, and so on. I measured mine out and I think I did a pretty good job of getting them flush:

Posted by: Ben.H Sep 25 2011, 04:20 PM

I do believe we'll be buying a brand new set specifically in Honda Accord fitment, so I presume the offset will be right, otherwise heads will roll

Posted by: Mkid Sep 25 2011, 04:44 PM

Wait, so your telling me that wheel shops recommend 9" wide wheels for your car O_o That barely fits my car.

Posted by: Curtis Sep 25 2011, 05:16 PM

i've seen people comfortably fit 11's under a golf before. older cars tend to have a bit more clearance than is absolutely necessary

Posted by: J.red Sep 28 2011, 05:53 PM

who cares if rota makes replica wheels?
They just get a bad rep because a few have broken under extraneous conditions.

That didn't just break driving down a road. He took a corner too fast, overcorrected, went sideways and hit a curb. His car ended up on top of the curb. The wheel broke, yes, but his brake rotor also broke into two pieces. You can't tell me that "real" rims would have stood up to that abuse. They would have been just as screwed up as the rota wheel.

They're fine for anyone with a daily driven car that sees respectable street use.

Posted by: Madset. Sep 29 2011, 06:16 AM

if you not building a track beast go fake.

Posted by: Mkid Sep 29 2011, 01:57 PM

I posted a record setting track beast with Rotas, so it doesn't really matter. lol

Posted by: Timay Sep 29 2011, 03:23 PM

I never said anything about the quality of the wheel

It's just fake s**t is for cheap ass people, buying reps is just an easy way out, so you can look cool in front of all the people that don't know otherwise

People that know better and people that have real s**t are going to think you're a tool because you have something that's a cheap copy of a real product

Not to mention the fact that replica wheels are theft of another companies designs, that's real cool. You guys get mad over stealing pixels, so what about something more material, it's theft either way.

There are few exceptions, but copies are just that, why get a copy of something unless there were only one or two produced. When it's two mass produced products, the one that's stealing designs is going to take business from the real companies. What happens when they have to quit manufacturing or jack the costs up? People that buy cheap knockoffs are the reason you can't afford real s**t in the first place

Posted by: M.I.V. Design. Sep 29 2011, 03:26 PM

fake wheels save you money

Posted by: Timay Sep 29 2011, 03:56 PM

Posted by: Daniel. Sep 29 2011, 06:03 PM

Posted by: Timay Sep 29 2011, 06:05 PM

Except the fact that Rotas are goddamn counterfeit, lmao

Posted by: Josн Sep 29 2011, 06:11 PM

plus they break in half if you look at them the wrong way

Posted by: AndrewGMC Sep 29 2011, 06:12 PM

rips off are rips off
spending 100000000 dlls on wheels isnt the same as spending 1000 on wheels

actually rota means broken in spanish

Posted by: Josн Sep 29 2011, 06:15 PM

but with that extra cost, you pay for quality also. not even that they'll fall apart on you. the cheaper the wheel is made, the less true it'd be. same thing with bike wheels, would you rather take a $10 rim or a $100 rim? the $100 rim would be better made and more true, which makes it better overall. i'd rather pay that extra money for the ease of mind

Posted by: Timay Sep 29 2011, 06:20 PM

Plus, half the reason they're so cheap is because their designs are STOLEN, haha. No R&D costs of someone else designs the wheel for you

Posted by: Ben.H Sep 29 2011, 09:08 PM

Posted by: Mkid Sep 29 2011, 11:55 PM

O_o

I hope things work themselves out for you.

But in the defense of fake wheels... Maybe the real wheel companies would get more business if they dropped their prices. Their prices are inflated because they know people will still want and buy them and they still meet their profit goals. If they were losing money, they would drop their prices so fast it would be ridiculous. Its all about supply n demand. By the way, might I remind you that half of Enkei's wheels are knock-offs of other wheels. I would hardly consider Enkei a poser company.

This whole argument just reminds me of middle school kids who pick on the kid wearing K-mart sneakers because he doesn't have Nikes. Copying goes on in all markets. Are you going to pick on someone because they bought Wal-Mart brand apple juice instead of Motts? To say you are buying wheels just because of the respect you will get for them is retarded. Buy what you like, grow up, and stop hating.

Posted by: Madset. Sep 30 2011, 03:56 AM

yea, if they are exactly the same, why wouldnt you.

Enkei has been around longer than most of the "main brand" wheels.

Rota has been around longer than konig, racinghart and many others. and they aren't the only company that plays off of other companies' designs.

all those pictures josh posted are not under normal driving conditions. Any other wheel would have been foobarred there as well.

Rota's crack instead of bend under extremely high impact loading because they are cast wheels. Cast material is more brittle than forged or machined billet material. That doesn't mean it's a whole lot weaker though. They still have very similar ultimate strengths. Brittle just means it's more prone to fail by cracking rather than fail by plastic deformation. Any cast wheels will look just like the rotas when they hit something that hard.

edit: High end racing uses forged wheels mostly. rotas are not forged.

Yeah, it reminds me of middle school too, when we used to f**k with kids who STOLE clothing from someone else's gym locker and wore them the next day, be it shoes, shorts, shirts, whatever...

They're not off-brand, they're counterfeit, stolen, theft of intellectual property. They're not something that was designed to look sort of like another wheel, it's the exact same design used by a company that didn't develop the wheel to begin with.

I guess I'll start releasing all your guys' tunes as my own, as long as I put ROTA in the tune name it shouldn't be a big deal right? Apparently that's an excuse for blatant theft

n***a expect us to read all of this

I think you are directing your hate towards the wrong companies. Rotas are not true counterfeits because they never claim to be the actual real wheel. They come with Rota centercaps and Rota decals. There are companies out there that make straight up counterfeit wheels... complete with advan/volk/rays/etc centercaps, decals and etchings. Most of these aren't even safe enough to meet the international standards that Rota wheels meet to get the embossed stamps such as "JWL" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JWL_standard . If your going to hate, hate on those companies. Rota started out making replacement wheels for OEM wheels. Its what they do and they never claim to be the original. When they first started out making aftermarket style wheels they had some failures which is why they have a bad rep today. It shows there was more involved then just "copying" a design. They have to do a lot of testing and adjusting to get the proper certifications.

Just a side note, I have nothing against expensive wheels other than the fact that they are overpriced. If you have the money for them and don't mind blowing it, by all means, get them. I don't appreciate when people get on other people's cases about stuff like that though. There is absolutely nothing wrong with getting rotas if the person buying them is okay with that.

This is going wayyy too far now guys. At the end of the day, knock off wheels are like pirating music. Yeah, you know its wrong/illegal, but you do it anyway. Why, because, like many others out there you either can't afford, or can't justify the cost associated. I personally would have no problem buying rota (well, i wouldn't if i could afford them) as i don't have the money to get anything like that. For road cars, you're gonna buy the wheel for the looks, not the performance. Once you've picked a design you like, you're gonna go for the cheapest.

The difference is, you didn't re-create that from scratch wink.gif

I'd say if you want to compare it to pixel terms. Rota references heavily without proper credit. lol

Posted by: Ben.H Oct 2 2011, 12:23 AM

I don't think Rota hurt big companies much anyway. Because with the prices for the real deal, even with lower sale numbers they're probably making similar amounts of money anyway. Honestly Rota is probably the least of their worries, big companies could have had Rota taken out a LONG time ago by now if they were concerned I'm sure

Posted by: DLuZive Oct 2 2011, 02:21 AM

dude rota is in forza 3, they're obviously cool

so they're both 6 spokes... oh well....

Doesn't Rota also replicate wheels you cant buy anymore? So that would be a plus wouldn't it?

Posted by: Brand0n. Oct 2 2011, 03:09 AM

They need to just replicate all wheels ever.

Posted by: Madset. Oct 2 2011, 04:53 AM

tbh, rotas dont even look the real thing.

Posted by: Brand0n. Oct 2 2011, 06:00 AM

They have the same shape and stuff but you can tell.

Posted by: Brand0n. Oct 2 2011, 06:01 AM

What would happen if Rota copied other off-brand wheels?
Is that just the lowest of the low?

Posted by: J.red Oct 2 2011, 02:53 PM

There are other companies that copy rims as well. some of them have even copied rota's designs.

Even Konig has wheels which are copies of volk, work, gram lights and wantanabe wheels.

at least rota isn't doing this

Posted by: Mkid Oct 2 2011, 04:51 PM

^ my point exactly. lol

My Konigs are Advan RS-D knock-offs. The rims that Konig makes that aren't knock-offs are kinda ugly wacko.gif

Posted by: Curtis Oct 2 2011, 04:55 PM

I just love the fact that Konig rewinds:

Are rip offs of watanabe's:

Which are in turn rip-offs of minilites:

what happened?

My dad's just a c**t. He was kind of drunk, so he came upstairs and went off on a mad one, all complaining about how I'm supposedly a failure (Coming from the guy who lives on government benefits, hmm...), then he started slating my mum off because he's an idiot, then he started calling me all sorts of unpleasant things, and when I reacted he saw it as an excuse to strangle me, shortly after this he kicked me out (On a sunday night, nothing was open, I had no phone and no money, literally the clothes I was wearing) and he told me to stay out of his life. So now I'm living at my mum's, and my sister's decided to delete/block me off of Facebook and has been spreading rumours that I spontaneously trashed my room and walked out :S

I swear, this isn't a project thread any more, it's updates on how f**king retarded my family is

Also my computer's been smashed the f**k up so I've lost all my pixel stuff, damn

Posted by: Madset. Oct 4 2011, 05:40 AM

oh f**k, no offence but i hate familys like that toung.gif

Posted by: DLuZive Oct 4 2011, 08:22 AM

what a f**king f**kwit... walk back in there and shoot him in the leg with a nerf gun, then when he reacts call 999
