lol
sorry for the offtopic

Posted by: the stigster May 3 2009, 09:47 AM

looks strong just need alot of body work on it and interior. front looks quite strong cus normally you have to replace the front end but it might just need some touch ups. how much was it, my guess is about 4-5k (british pounds) maybe seen as a restored one is about 13-20k(british pounds) lol

Get it runnin, bolt a park bench in the front, put some lights in it, slam it BAM your a cult hero

Honestly though happy birthday and congrats, I wish I had the space/time/money/drive to find and build one of these (Canada is tough on VW's)

Keep us updated.... PLEASE!

Posted by: Bryce.(fb999) May 3 2009, 06:30 PM

paint it yellow and red and blue and write bryce on the side to prove that you own it.

Posted by: MySkylineRocks May 3 2009, 08:17 PM

Why The f*** yellow?
U are really weird.

Posted by: Stendert May 3 2009, 08:22 PM

bottom white and do the top candy apple red

it is an old model, you can see that on the rests of the front blinker

Posted by: Bryce.(fb999) May 3 2009, 09:04 PM

no, i'd say black on top, grey on bottom. i think that was a stock option before, ive seen a few like that.

Posted by: Ed. May 3 2009, 09:16 PM

to be honest mate, find an old Subaru Legacy engine, even the 2.0 NA flat four'll do, link it to the rear wheels, cut the leaves and have it near-scraping. sort out the windows, fit a close-ratio rack and pinion, sort out some disks up front, and put on some lights. little bit of rust repair on the chassis rails and engine mounts, should make a fun little cult wagon. f*** paint, bare steel, primer and filler ftw.

And then have like a waterbed in the back with shag carpets and stuff tongue.gif

Posted by: Yoda May 3 2009, 10:35 PM

I agree with Ed, I would get the electrical, floors, suspension, brakes, and engine sorted and just leave the rest be, maybe fix the glass to get the bugs otuta your teeth tongue.gif

lol, are you restoring?

if you are, than lets have a battle.

we will se who compleats there car first

youll probaly win because your bug is a super, and mine is a 57, so your parts are eazy to find and your way older so you probaly have a job, so you probaly have more monney than me.

also mine is in worse condition

but i have a good advantage, my dads shop.

they get discounts on sertan kinds of parts.

and my dad and his friends are specialists

and the have the right tools and equipment to do the job.

Posted by: Yoda May 5 2009, 03:47 AM

I have a shop/machine shop/body shop at my disposal and $100,000 in snap-on tools at my fingertips

the advantage you have is you have a shell, I haev an engine.. LOL I lost my beetle in a legal matter so I only have the engine (and about $17 canadian to my name lol)

HOWEVER I met a man through that legal battel today who has over 100 Kombi's Westies Dokas T3 Synchros and the like ONTOP of his Beetle, Puma, Karman Giha and Thing collectons so I may be grabbing some vehicles off him (hes in a land battle and will lose alot of his collection soon)

Maybe we can have a restore off tongue.gif

I gotta take a trip to his barn 4 hours up north to get the pics (he should take me soon) he has some other neat cars I'm lookin at though, like his Lada Nivia Pickup and a Citroen Panel Van

If I have my way our battle won't be fair (your bus is in MUCH worse condition then the one he showed me pics of that I want) but when I do eventually buy the ones that I want off him I'll group them together so it's fair tongue.gif

Mostly I want his 79 Scirocco for a DD cause the Supra is too much on insurace ha ha

killer score! cant wait to see it up and running theres 1 or 2 of them around my way in decent condition one was for sale but it sold i wanted it to sad.gif

Posted by: DMC-12 May 31 2009, 01:29 AM

Nice acquisition! May i suggest putting a tarp over the top to protect it from the weather? i know it is probably rotten inside out, but it will help instead of things getting worse. There is a triumph dolomite i have my eyes on! its in a little better condition, but the front is pretty bad! Its gonna be fun finding replacments for all of those nuts and bolts!!

Posted by: Robertlucky May 31 2009, 02:17 PM

Tarp is great but there are some flaws, when something is covered in tarp it will sweat basicly and moss and s*** will grow under the sheet, unless it is air tight and moisture tight.

Posted by: DMC-12 May 31 2009, 02:55 PM

i suppose, not a tarp then, but something made for the purpose should exist

Posted by: benzoboy May 31 2009, 04:19 PM

and i have a tarp, you can see it in the corners of the pics

Posted by: PurePontiacKid Jun 12 2009, 04:46 AM

Posted by: duncan Jun 12 2009, 11:30 PM

lol, and an update:

me and my dad are gonna be pulling it up to his shop, wich im working at for 5 dollars an hour, and then im gonna be pulling the front beam out from under it and im gonna be cleaning it, sanding it to the bare mettle and then spray painting it gray

Posted by: PurePontiacKid Jun 13 2009, 09:39 PM

gray primer I hope?

Posted by: duncan Jun 13 2009, 10:04 PM

yah

Posted by: duncan May 26 2010, 12:52 AM

oh wow, its been awhile since i have posted in this topic. its been a little while. haha, well, lets see, its going to be a long slowly but surely process. hmmmm, i have a few parts for it. i have a middle seat, a rear seat, all but 3 pieces of glass, battery tray, rear corner, back hatch, umm, i cant really think of much anything else off the top of my head right this second. i have some money saved up, and i continue to work at Monkey Nut Vw. I haven't done much more then clean it, move it into the garage, and dissembled it. I took the rear end out, and i have a newly rebuilt transmission for it waiting down at the shop.

i plan to take it down to the shop this summer and work on the floors and the engine compartment. I plan to get all the necessary body work done first. (like floors and engine compartment and stuff like that.) then i want to get it running and driving. then ill drive it around and do some body work to it here and there whenever i have the money. then when all the body work is done and stuff, ill paint it. Palm-Green Sand-Green (L 311 and L 312) then ill collect some accessories and parts and stuff as i come across them. that's my plan, but it might change as i go along. umm, i guess that's all for right now. CNC please!!!!! and if you have any questions or if your curious about anything at all, please ask!!

heres some pics

before transmission removal

After transmission removal

Do moar work!! you've had it ages! gasp.gif

Posted by: duncan May 26 2010, 01:07 AM

yeah, i have had it for over a year now. im pretty disappointed that i haven't got much work done to it as i would have liked.

Posted by: duncan Jul 16 2010, 02:09 AM

well, i hope to have it at least towed to monkey nut by the end of this summer. it cannot be towed by car but its eather going to use a flatbed (about $80) or we could rent a trailer (about $150-200). im thinking about getting the trailer because we have more than 1 car that needs to be towed and a bunch of parts, and it would probably be cheaper if we get the trailer. it is currently standing outside the garage awaiting to be towed.

i have pics, but they wont upload for some reason.

and i FOUND an OG early headlight lens in the TRASH. its in pretty good condition. it has 1 minor chip kind of in the middle. but its definitely usable.

pics laturrrrrr

Posted by: DMC-12 Jul 16 2010, 02:38 AM

Duude, don't you think it would be cheaper to buy one that needs less work? This thing needs so much welding and stuff like that, surely it would work out cheaper in the end.

Posted by: Jolteon Jul 16 2010, 02:47 AM

But this way would be more fun toothygrin.gif

Posted by: .ecyrB Jul 16 2010, 03:04 AM

Agreed. Much more rewarding, too.

Posted by: DLuZive Jul 16 2010, 06:45 AM

eager.gif MORE PICS!!!!!!!! Love the car. But I like tuners and crap, yet I love euro

Posted by: duncan Jul 16 2010, 03:51 PM

im thinking of buying like a beater to drive around while im working on this. and ill just work on it gradually as i get more money. and if i acquire a bus that needs the parts that are good on this ill just combine the two.

and ill have pics as soon as possible

Posted by: M.I.V. Design. Jul 16 2010, 04:18 PM

why do you call a thing bus, if i call it a rustbucket

damn, i do love rat, but this, dayum man ohmy.gif

Posted by: Carl Jul 28 2010, 02:15 PM

you call it a rustbucket, i call it rust with some car leftovers.

seriously, when you get to metalwork there will be 10 good percent to leave.

Posted by: .ecyrB Jul 29 2010, 02:05 AM

Come on guys. I agree it's a huge challenge, but Duncan's really got his heart into this one. I say if he wants to make it run then he should, if he wants to make it look good then he should, and if he decides to turn it into a rocket ship, then why the f*ck shouldn't he? It's his car and he likes it.

Posted by: Andrew Jul 29 2010, 02:16 AM

just make a tubular chassis and cage inside it and spray that transparent paint that prevent rust (in this case to mek its pread to the lefting material) toung.gif

Posted by: duncan Jul 29 2010, 03:52 AM

lol, the chassis isent bad. its just the body. thanks guys for the responces.

haha, well, the blue one we just picked up a few days ago and its for my dads shop as a parts runner and stuff. and most likely the blue one will get an engine first.

the headlight lens i found in the garbage...

Posted by: duncan Oct 21 2010, 11:27 PM

Posted by: duncan Oct 23 2010, 01:36 PM

what was it in?

Posted by: M.I.V. Design. Oct 23 2010, 07:52 PM

offtopic facepalm.gif

get this into a chemical bath
weld in holes, and it will be all fineeeee

on a serious note
you should get a better body imo

Posted by: duncan Oct 25 2010, 08:21 PM

well, ill fix the major problems first like the front floors and the cargo door rocker and the battery tray. and then ill get it running and fix it along the way.

btw, the market for a bus is through the roof right now, so finding a good cheep body just is tooo unrealistic.

i was thinking maybe these tires.

G78-15 STA Super Traxions

Posted by: Mkid Oct 27 2010, 05:23 PM

if your gonna get those tires, make it look super offroady. not euro

Posted by: HenrikSTi Oct 27 2010, 05:48 PM

what the f**k those tires gasp.gif

white band tires and chrome hubcaps ftw. do it

Posted by: DMC-12 Oct 27 2010, 07:48 PM

Those tyres. with nato green and Luftwaffe stickers xd.gif

Posted by: duncan Oct 27 2010, 08:13 PM

haha, no white bands, but chrome hubcaps with black inserts, with palmgreen sandgreen rims fosho.

(like this, but with the tires above maby with some pinstripeing)

Posted by: Mkid Oct 28 2010, 04:52 PM

those tires would not look good on that.

They would look good if it was in this style:

Posted by: duncan Oct 28 2010, 07:17 PM

ehh, they look good on a vanagon. lol, im not shure, i might go with light gray hubcaps with black inserts. hmm i dont know

Posted by: duncan Nov 26 2010, 06:16 AM

alrighty, alittle change in plans. my dad has a 1971 vw type 3 fastback. its a very solid car and nice and OG.

i only have one pic of it. sorry.

we have all the parts for it, it just needs to be put together. but im going to have to build my own motor for it. but ill pretty much borrow it from my dad and drive this around while i fix my bus and then ill switch my motor to my bus and give the car back to my dad and drive my bus. pretty good plan eh?

Posted by: Mitch. Nov 26 2010, 06:24 AM

you should just rat rod the bus euro style toothygrin.gif

Posted by: duncan Nov 26 2010, 06:46 AM

haha, nahhhh, just shortend front beams and some times beetle trans with reduction boxes

well, my friends dad has a late 80s, early 90s civic, just sitting there in his drive way.

(i dont have pics but it looks like an abandend version of this with paint pealing on the hood and flat tires.)

he said he would give it to me for free. but he has to pay the loan off it for the title and stuff. but its a good car, all it needs is a battery and new tires.
whaddya think? not bad for free?

Posted by: DLuZive Dec 2 2010, 09:30 AM

not bad at all.

Posted by: Mkid Dec 2 2010, 04:37 PM

Why not, if anything just sell it for a few hundred and get your bus running.

Posted by: duncan Dec 2 2010, 08:26 PM

exactly my plan. but its in a title loan sad.gif

Posted by: Mitch. Dec 3 2010, 09:46 PM

get the civic, put the engine in ur bus, dump the civic, drive off happily in your bus

EDIT: sell the bus to some collector fella, get the civic, so cal rat rod the civic

Posted by: duncan Dec 4 2010, 05:39 AM

Posted by: Mitch. Dec 8 2010, 05:06 AM

exactly^

Posted by: duncan Jan 27 2011, 11:56 PM

well, not much updates, other than a change in plans. pretty much what i have planned for the civic is..

-I get the car.
-i bring it home.
-I get a manual for it.
-Get my grandmas battery from her car that is broken.
-Try to get car running.

now depending if i am able to get it running or not

It Runs
-Get new tires
-Drive it till my bus is running.
-and possibly lower it by cutting sections out of the springs.
-Put some stickers i found and will print out

It Dosent Run
-try to sell for some extra cash for the bus

i dont wanna spend much money at all on this car so i have an very tight budget on it.

and while at a show last weekend, a guy who had previously owned my bus had brought a bumper to us to repair and to straighten out, and we believe that it was my original front bumper. So im thinking about making him an offer on it.

get that ish running before you drop in a stick lol
If you can't get it running what's the point of salvaging a new tranny?
lot of hard work for nothing toung.gif
Tires might be pretty cheap fo your car too toothygrin.gif
Some 80s compacts have a weird negative charge cable that runs to the battery, make sure the new battery will be compatible :3
but sounds like you got a sweet deal dude.

Posted by: Warning Feb 1 2011, 02:11 AM

I'm jealous. But its so rusty man! Your going to make Gerson rich toung.gif. I hope you keep it original though! It is a barn door after all. If you wanna hack it up, or make a rat look, sell it to someone whose going to preserve it and buy a later model, imho.
Goodluck with whatever you do!

Posted by: duncan Feb 1 2011, 02:22 AM

haha, you know Gerson?!?!?! LOL! thanks. although its a '57, a "bullet nose", not a barndoor. barndoors were made from late 49-early 55. but id love to have one. haha, and yea, i plan to keep it, buy alottttt of green metal (witch my dads shop is a distributor of the stuff and i get a discount) and just drive it till it falls apart. and then probably fix it up again and continue driving. haha smile2.gif and im definitely keeping it OG!!

Posted by: Warning Feb 1 2011, 02:40 AM

I thought it was a barndoor for some reason. xd.gif
And yeah, I love ACVW's especially Buses., been trying to score one for way to long.

Posted by: Madset. Feb 1 2011, 02:50 AM

u cant score a bus

Posted by: duncan Feb 1 2011, 08:09 PM

Posted by: duncan Mar 20 2011, 05:56 PM

Posted by: duncan Mar 20 2011, 06:22 PM

Posted by: N.OzolS Jun 21 2012, 07:42 AM

whats up?

Posted by: duncan Jun 21 2012, 08:08 AM

haha, The bus is the same. I gained some sense, and realized that it's going to be about 5K just to get it running and driving. That's not including metal work, paint, or interior. Now it's sitting in the garage waiting for me to win the lottery or something.
Right now, I am trying to sell my Travelall, to get a Baywindow bus, and then I will drive that.
