Project 'Death of a Salesman', [NOT A CAR] |

So, my friend and I are working on a little project, and our working name is Death of a Salesman because, if we dedicate ourselves to it enough, it WILL eliminate all need for car salesmen.
Due to the fact that we have no patent and need more time than most people would to create it, I cannot disclose a heavy amount of information to you. I will tell you some stuff though. Basically, you would simply need to think of the car that you want, and we would provide a top 50 list of cars to fit your criteria. There would be full-page write-ups and reviews about each car so you can see if the #1 on your list really is number one, or whatever. Overall, it really is a fool-proof way to shop for cars in an unbiased manner, it takes FAR less time than sitting around talking to people, and it's free. The only trade-off is that you have to buy and make your own coffee. Please vote. I just need to see if there's interest here before I print out a bunch of public surveys. Not her and me alone. We'll just load every common US-legal car from the past 20 years in without reviews and then get help writing those once the site is online.
EDIT: Now I'm off to do homework. feel free to ask questions, but don't spam it up with stuff like "Yeah I agree with [so and so]." This post has been edited by .ecyrB: Sep 19 2010, 08:10 PM |

I know, and they will. It's not like you'd just go to the dealer with your number one car in mind and buy it. You'd still need to negotiate a price with them. All it eliminates is them trying to throw on useless upgrades and/or switch you to a completely different car. You'd just bring in a printed "certificate" or whatever and say "This is what I want, I'm not changing my mind, and if you try to convince me otherwise I'm leaving." then go get it.

But back on topic: Yeah, I know it seems unlikely, but all I need to know is a little bit of programming and the bare basics of a helluva lot of cars. So it'll take a while, but it's doable. EDIT: And you're right. It's only for "ordinary" people. The best car for me would probably be something like an automatic 240SX or some s**t. But do I want that? F*ck no. I want a real car. If this works, then my first car will be a Cadillac CTS-V in ice white. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool2.gif) This post has been edited by .ecyrB: Sep 20 2010, 12:19 AM |

BUMP!
I may have thought of a way to raise money and, thanks to a loophole in the system, be able to do whatever the f**k I want at school. I am going to create a religion. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool2.gif) (The school rules specifically state you can violate the dress code for religious purposes and all religious holidays are considered excused absences) You're probably taking this less seriously now, but I'm totally serious. If it's something that can be done, you can bet I'll try it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRK8P94QXxQ This post has been edited by .ecyrB: Sep 24 2010, 09:58 PM |

But that's not what I'm talking about. On that website, you need to know what kind of car you want and stuff. On mine, it will be more like "Well... I want a car. Maybe a convertible." and then you can still easily find the perfect one off of so little criteria.

Don't know about the US, but The Netherlands has at least 3 sites where you can use very little criteria, like you stated, a convertible. |

Is yours for buying from faulty second hand dealerships? No. Are you all thinking this is like a database of all cars that are currently for sale? Well here's a hint: It's not. You cannot physically see the car you're going to buy. The actual shopping comes after and our site will not be associated with it. EDIT: And it's not like that either. You don't go into it with much criteria, even none at all if you're that much of a noob, and it basically forces you to make up your mind in a non-demanding way. Out of laziness and an unwillingness to look, I decided to ask:
What software do you recommend for simple but powerful if-then programming? I can get everything else on my own but I'm at a loss for this stuff. |

use python, if it is a website thing, then I don't think python works without it being downloaded, so you maybe should use eclipse or netbeans to use java ! I don't know, but python would work I think, if you could do web support

I came up with a grammatically incorrect working title. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/toung.gif) It has a good ring to it, it's only two short words totaling 3 syllables, it's not in English but both of the words are cognates, and something about it just sounds official. "AutoBesten." Because it's about getting the best car, Germany makes good cars, and BestenAuto sounds like crap.

So you still havn't explained... What is the point of this? Many sites do reviews of cars, and you can search for a convertible, it gives you a rundown of it, and it will give you a few options.

Nope. I really can't give away any more information without giving everything away. You haven't really told much and it seems like most websites. So really, no one wants to use it until they know exactly what it is. I don't think saying that you have no clue what you want, it can help you. Keywords help. I just don't understand it, sorry. |
