looks strong just need alot of body work on it and interior. front looks quite strong cus normally you have to replace the front end but it might just need some touch ups. how much was it, my guess is about 4-5k (british pounds) maybe seen as a restored one is about 13-20k(british pounds) lol

to be honest mate, find an old Subaru Legacy engine, even the 2.0 NA flat four'll do, link it to the rear wheels, cut the leaves and have it near-scraping. sort out the windows, fit a close-ratio rack and pinion, sort out some disks up front, and put on some lights. little bit of rust repair on the chassis rails and engine mounts, should make a fun little cult wagon. f*** paint, bare steel, primer and filler ftw.

Instead of using a transplanted engine, how abouts use a old 1600 or even a 2000 if you could get a good one, keep it all original, ya' know? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

the advantage you have is you have a shell, I haev an engine.. LOL I lost my beetle in a legal matter so I only have the engine (and about $17 canadian to my name lol)

HOWEVER I met a man through that legal battel today who has over 100 Kombi's Westies Dokas T3 Synchros and the like ONTOP of his Beetle, Puma, Karman Giha and Thing collectons so I may be grabbing some vehicles off him (hes in a land battle and will lose alot of his collection soon)

I gotta take a trip to his barn 4 hours up north to get the pics (he should take me soon) he has some other neat cars I'm lookin at though, like his Lada Nivia Pickup and a Citroen Panel Van

If I have my way our battle won't be fair (your bus is in MUCH worse condition then the one he showed me pics of that I want) but when I do eventually buy the ones that I want off him I'll group them together so it's fair (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Mostly I want his 79 Scirocco for a DD cause the Supra is too much on insurace ha ha

Kinda like mine too except my hair is longer and doesn't resemble a parachute unless it's windy.

Nice car by the way mate. Good to see someone with taste.

Nice acquisition! May i suggest putting a tarp over the top to protect it from the weather? i know it is probably rotten inside out, but it will help instead of things getting worse. There is a triumph dolomite i have my eyes on! its in a little better condition, but the front is pretty bad! Its gonna be fun finding replacments for all of those nuts and bolts!!

Tarp is great but there are some flaws, when something is covered in tarp it will sweat basicly and moss and s*** will grow under the sheet, unless it is air tight and moisture tight.

oh wow, its been awhile since i have posted in this topic. its been a little while. haha, well, lets see, its going to be a long slowly but surely process. hmmmm, i have a few parts for it. i have a middle seat, a rear seat, all but 3 pieces of glass, battery tray, rear corner, back hatch, umm, i cant really think of much anything else off the top of my head right this second. i have some money saved up, and i continue to work at Monkey Nut Vw. I haven't done much more then clean it, move it into the garage, and dissembled it. I took the rear end out, and i have a newly rebuilt transmission for it waiting down at the shop.

i plan to take it down to the shop this summer and work on the floors and the engine compartment. I plan to get all the necessary body work done first. (like floors and engine compartment and stuff like that.) then i want to get it running and driving. then ill drive it around and do some body work to it here and there whenever i have the money. then when all the body work is done and stuff, ill paint it. Palm-Green Sand-Green (L 311 and L 312) then ill collect some accessories and parts and stuff as i come across them. that's my plan, but it might change as i go along. umm, i guess that's all for right now. CNC please!!!!! and if you have any questions or if your curious about anything at all, please ask!!

heres some pics

well, i hope to have it at least towed to monkey nut by the end of this summer. it cannot be towed by car but its eather going to use a flatbed (about $80) or we could rent a trailer (about $150-200). im thinking about getting the trailer because we have more than 1 car that needs to be towed and a bunch of parts, and it would probably be cheaper if we get the trailer. it is currently standing outside the garage awaiting to be towed.

i have pics, but they wont upload for some reason.

and i FOUND an OG early headlight lens in the TRASH. its in pretty good condition. it has 1 minor chip kind of in the middle. but its definitely usable.

pics laturrrrrr

Duude, don't you think it would be cheaper to buy one that needs less work? This thing needs so much welding and stuff like that, surely it would work out cheaper in the end.

Come on guys. I agree it's a huge challenge, but Duncan's really got his heart into this one. I say if he wants to make it run then he should, if he wants to make it look good then he should, and if he decides to turn it into a rocket ship, then why the f*ck shouldn't he? It's his car and he likes it.

just make a tubular chassis and cage inside it and spray that transparent paint that prevent rust (in this case to mek its pread to the lefting material) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/toung.gif)

well, ill fix the major problems first like the front floors and the cargo door rocker and the battery tray. and then ill get it running and fix it along the way.

btw, the market for a bus is through the roof right now, so finding a good cheep body just is tooo unrealistic.

i was thinking maybe these tires.

those tires would not look good on that.

They would look good if it was in this style:

alrighty, alittle change in plans. my dad has a 1971 vw type 3 fastback. its a very solid car and nice and OG.

(IMG:http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-snc1/v1975/75/102/1052762892/n1052762892_271892_8699.jpg)

i only have one pic of it. sorry.

we have all the parts for it, it just needs to be put together. but im going to have to build my own motor for it. but ill pretty much borrow it from my dad and drive this around while i fix my bus and then ill switch my motor to my bus and give the car back to my dad and drive my bus. pretty good plan eh?
