Pixel Car Art _ Automotive chat _ Tim's Silvia

Posted by: _RX7 _ Jul 22 2012, 10:33 AM

Ok so saw Ivan and Jareds topics and thought yeah why not.

So anyways i own a 91 s13 sr20det smile2.gif good fun its my daily driver. This topic is gonna be pretty slow but there will be updates with pics after most mods smile2.gif

To start off ill post up the coilovers i installed about a month ago now smile2.gif

Silkroad RMA8's that a bought through jesse streeter from japan smile2.gif

A pic of the car while they were going in (the guard is due for paint every soon, i got backing into in a carpark :/)

So for comparison here is a shot before and a shot after the coilovers smile2.gif

Also slowly collecting parts for when i egt my stud 17x9 Gram lights 57d\'s

So i have sitting in the shed a full 5 stud conversion, consisting of s15 front knuckles, hubs, rotors and calipers and s14 rear hubs and calipers. Also have a pair of adjustable castor rods and have a set of adjustable rear camber arms on the way.

So the plan will be over 2 days to put the whole 5 stud conversion in, replace almost all of the suspension arms with adjustable items and fit the new wheels with some rubber then go get it all aligned.

So there is a quick run down of how she sits now and some plans for the future.

Ill leave you with this.

Posted by: Daniel. Jul 22 2012, 02:34 PM

i love you

finally youre working on it after ages lol

Posted by: Ryousuke Jul 22 2012, 02:56 PM

one of the best nissan stock rims!!

loving this dude

Posted by: AndrewGMC Jul 22 2012, 04:12 PM

looks amazing
k´s aero asap , or vertex bodykit

Posted by: _RX7 _ Jul 23 2012, 05:36 AM

Haha cheers guys, ive had the thing for like 2 years now and only really been starting work on it in the last month or 2 smile2.gif

The rims are getting prplaced by some nicley offset gram lights, heres a pic of them.

Then i will be finishing off the exterior with Origin carbon roof wing and boot lip, i have the boot lip sitting in my room and the roof wing is on worder from japan due to come out of origins factory end of the month, so not long. They will look like this, obviously better because they are dark on my dark car smile2.gif

That is Nigel Petries car from www.engineeredtoslide.com, go check is project ute out smile2.gif

Im sticking with the colour of the car and factory kit for now. With the possibility of going with the factory aero kit and a really dark purple in the future.

Posted by: Rywired Jul 23 2012, 06:37 AM

Its gonna look sick with those wheels and trunk + roof lip on wub.gif

Posted by: Mkid Jul 23 2012, 01:31 PM

My bud Paulo has wheels similar to what you want on his S13 vert

He has an RB swap, he can barely close his hood cuz its so huge. lmao.

Posted by: _RX7 _ Jul 23 2012, 02:22 PM

haha mate did an rb swap and has the same problem.

that vert looks hot smile2.gif

Posted by: Dj-san Jul 25 2012, 05:01 PM

This reminds me a lot of my friend's coupe. Its got the Silvia convertion w/ the triple projctors aswell. All black, with the lower middle section cut out of the front bumper. Doesnt have that piece between the lights. :| RB Powered though.

You should deff get brick headlamps, and actualy take car of this car and not multiple S13s...

Posted by: Josн Jul 25 2012, 09:23 PM

i like this. stock body kit <3

Posted by: DLuZive Jul 25 2012, 09:54 PM

needs aero kit toung.gif

dj this hasnt been converted or whatever??

Posted by: _RX7 _ Jul 26 2012, 01:20 AM

Yeah will defiantly be keeping it very neat, no track work dedicated street car.

And as I said cooper will try and work on and aero kit in te future, but for now standard turbo kit ftw.

Posted by: Madset. Jul 27 2012, 05:23 AM

dude, jesse streeter was the guy that joel hedges (aka Cs garage yellow onevia) lived with for a year in japan :OOO

dude get angel eye headlights or what ever they're called, the look sick

Posted by: _RX7 _ Jul 27 2012, 06:40 AM

Yeah hes an awesome dude so good to order things through, really helpful and very fast responce.

And No.

Posted by: DLuZive Jul 27 2012, 08:38 AM

bricks?

Posted by: M.I.V. Design. Jul 27 2012, 11:17 AM

looks like a clean silvia, we don't get them that clean and rust free over here sad.gif

Posted by: _RX7 _ Jul 29 2012, 06:24 AM

Yeah its pretty clean as is once the paint is all done will be super clean.

Cooper i will get a set of bricks if i can find some for a decent price in good condition.

Little update, the car has gone in for the first part of the paint work so its not all covered in primer smile2.gif

(Yes the panel beater did write "I wish my girl was this dirty" on my rear window toung.gif)

Also bought some s15 stockies with rubber to run with my 5 stud conversion till i get the gram lights.

Posted by: Madset. Jul 29 2012, 06:30 AM

super sexy
i cant remember what the headlights i was talking wer called

Posted by: nhra1625 Jul 29 2012, 07:15 AM

hey, i know ur not looking into kits yet but i just wanted to throw this out there...because u wanna keep it really clean i think the instant gentleman kit would keep it really clean but still add some class to it.

its so simple yet its still nice and fairly unique...ive never seen one in person...

Posted by: M.I.V. Design. Jul 29 2012, 08:19 AM

if i might give you a small piece of advice, never prime all the way to the tape, it will leave lines in the finished paintwork in the worst case wink.gif

Posted by: nhra1625 Jul 29 2012, 08:23 AM

yea but dont u wet sand it before you clear it???

Posted by: _RX7 _ Jul 29 2012, 09:08 AM

Im not the one painting it haha, i dont know the first thing about it. it was primed and as you can see its been sanded back over the primer to.

I'll post up the results of the finished work once its all done.

Posted by: M.I.V. Design. Jul 29 2012, 04:50 PM

yea no matter if you sand it or not, the reaction of the primer to the paint makes the paint "softer" wink.gif

Posted by: _RX7 _ Jul 30 2012, 07:43 AM

Yeah well i guess we will see once its done smile2.gif

Also roof wing arrived today smile2.gif

Posted by: nhra1625 Jul 30 2012, 07:55 AM

me gusta toothygrin.gif i think u need a small ducktail spoiler with that front bar we talked about last night

Posted by: _RX7 _ Jul 30 2012, 10:37 AM

thats what the thin one is, its a boot lip

Posted by: uiui Jul 30 2012, 11:41 AM

Nice car Tim.Its interesting how much drifters can be found down under.Amazing fact.

Posted by: Ed. Jul 31 2012, 08:08 AM

Uiui, you bring me to a point.

If you try to get all dorifto on us and ruin your car, I'll hate you forever. Having an S13 does not make you auto-drifter, keep to just enjoying the car toung.gif

Posted by: uiui Jul 31 2012, 08:41 AM

I was trying to say that there are drift cars not drift men lol.

Says the man who was texting me about how he's going to get an E30 wagon and take it sideways full of bitches out of every roundabout in Northampton!

Posted by: _RX7 _ Jul 31 2012, 01:11 PM

Bahaha, this Silvia isn't going to see the sideways life that 99% of its brothers do. Dedicated street car, my daily driver.

Posted by: Ed. Aug 2 2012, 11:34 PM

Curtis, E30's are cheap bags of s**t that are RWD, the S13's are nice cars, should be treated like ^ that post suggests

Take it back iseewud.gif

Ontopic: You should try to go VIP with it, with a little Boso influence, but the cleaner Boso style.

Posted by: J.red Aug 3 2012, 02:17 AM

keep it clean and oem+ is my vote. Something that looks nice, but still daily driveable.

Posted by: Madset. Aug 3 2012, 06:10 AM

you need blast pipes.

need

Posted by: _RX7 _ Aug 4 2012, 04:13 AM

Jared has it down, its staying clean and oem. the only kit i would put on it was the oem factory aero option if i can every find one in good contition that wont cost me $800 for just the front bar lol.

Also really keen on making up a costom fab exhause system made to me specs. 3inch into a split twin 2 inch system that run side by side giving and extra inch of clearence that will then run into a bend that will have the hi flow cat mount up in a slight hollow in the body then bend back down and out into another twin section to a muffler and then about 1-2 feet of twin straight pipes out the back.

Leaving the exhaust still at a streetable noise level but looking phat and sitting tucked up nicley agains the body.

Posted by: _Kevin_ Aug 4 2012, 05:14 AM

when funds allow (or time) you should go white and bronze
http://ivyleagueeast.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/oldskewls13.jpeg

that and oem will make me (a guy you never met) extremely happy :3

Posted by: _RX7 _ Aug 4 2012, 05:25 AM

Looks good, that front bar and skirts are the factory option aero kit that i would love smile2.gif

Posted by: Clem. Aug 4 2012, 12:23 PM

Oh you Australians are lucky, can't get any s**ts in France.
Also how many did you pay for? She is lovely

Posted by: J.red Aug 4 2012, 11:01 PM

3 inch is a pretty large exhaust for a NA car.Lots of times cars will actually perform better with a 2.5" or 2.25" exhaust versus a 3" It alldepends on if you have the mods to justify 3 inch.

So anyways i own a 91 s13 sr20det

J.red I like you and respect the work you put into moderating the forum but everything seems so serious with you, sure, maybe a smaller exhaust would perform better but probably not so much it'd be an issue, I don't think it really matters

Posted by: _RX7 _ Aug 5 2012, 04:34 AM

Clem i payed $4500 australian. for one of the cleanest silvias i have ever seen haha.

@Jared Its an sr20det with a gt28 attached so the turbo is a fair bit bigger than stock hence the full 3inch turbo back system.

Stock s13 turbo on the right, what im running on the left.

Posted by: Madset. Aug 5 2012, 04:38 AM

does go bwaaa *psshh*?

lol sexy choice on kit dude, i saw one done here in nz with the aero kit and bronze te37s

Posted by: _RX7 _ Aug 5 2012, 04:54 AM

No is doesnt go pssshhhh, it just flutters smile2.gif and yeah i would love to find a mint aero kit smile2.gif

Posted by: AndrewGMC Aug 5 2012, 05:02 AM

silvia aero, n1 vents and vanquish lip

or an integra lip

check yahoo japan auctions and rhd japan for cheap aero copies

im so excited, i hope you finish it fast :3

Posted by: _RX7 _ Aug 5 2012, 05:21 AM

Nah not fast, take my time get everything done properly.

I would really like a genuine aero kit as its made in the standard plastic that is really tough stuff takes quite a hit to brake them.

Posted by: nhra1625 Aug 5 2012, 06:10 AM

rocket buny front bar molded into the guards...remember?

Posted by: _RX7 _ Aug 5 2012, 06:11 AM

Yeah i remember but id go an aero front bar over the rocket bunny bar.

I didn't realize it was turbocharged, I didn't see that in the first post.

Anyways, I was just trying to help him out. Because in the case if it were NA, a 3 inch could actually hinder the performance. And sometimes an oversized exhaust can damage the valves and valve seals on NA cars. But being that it's turbo, a 3 inch is definitely perfectly fine.

Posted by: _RX7 _ Aug 5 2012, 03:13 PM

Yeah I inderstand what you were saying, but nah it's deffinatly charged smile2.gif

Posted by: _RX7 _ Aug 7 2012, 07:00 AM

My lower ball joints arrived today and a place up in queensland says they are able to supply me with s13 braided brakelines with an s15 fitting made by HEL, so good brand smile2.gif

Once i have all the parts ill be fitting it all going for a bit of a test fit on some 17x9's then putting and order in for my gram lights smile2.gif

I know you are Australian and all and prefer a non-functioning BOV, but please loosen that sh!t. lol

Posted by: _RX7 _ Aug 7 2012, 02:50 PM

Lossen it lololol it's completely blocked off haha.

Posted by: Mkid Aug 7 2012, 04:11 PM

Figures. lol

Is it just for the sound or do Australians know something that the rest of the world doesn't?

when the BOV/BPV is that tight or non-functioning, the air surges back into the turbo backwards which makes the flutter sound as the blades slow down... blades slowing down = they need to spool back up which in turn = turbo lag. It can also cause shaft play because the turbine is constantly being pushed back and forth although I think most people are willing to live with that risk. You can have it flutter a little bit, helps to be sure that you won't have a boost leak but it should still open under a lot of pressure so that you don't cause more lag or prematurely wear the turbo.

That's it for my mechanical lesson of the day smile2.gif. My BPV was originally set up for evo boost levels. I had to open it up and remove a spring to keep it from surging. I might tighten it up a bit more tho cuz I almost never hear it surge at all anymore which means it may have loosened up.

Posted by: _RX7 _ Aug 8 2012, 01:35 AM

Yeah, I'm running the stock 7psi through the stock bov built into the side mount. I will deffinatly go and after market on and have it open up under heavy pressure once I crank the boost up. That won't e until I have a front mount, new ecu, boost controller and bov in place.

Posted by: _RX7 _ Aug 8 2012, 01:39 AM

But on the other hand, everyone knows that flutter adds 10hp

Posted by: Josh Aug 8 2012, 02:44 AM

Posted by: Henrique. Aug 8 2012, 02:50 AM

but you need to go bwaaa tschii though

Posted by: Mkid Aug 8 2012, 01:10 PM

wtf 7psi?

your stock one looks bigger than mine and mine peaks at at least 15psi stock. Get on that! lol

Posted by: _RX7 _ Aug 8 2012, 01:43 PM

That's stock s13 boost 7psi

Posted by: Mkid Aug 8 2012, 01:58 PM

I'm a bit disappointed. lol. I thought they ran more.

Posted by: J.red Aug 8 2012, 10:27 PM

early turbo cars didn't run much boost from the factory. Most still don't unless they're a higher performance trim level.

cant wait till you get it painted, and wheels finalised, will be so sweet. I reckon Type X pods and sideskirts would be so nice with the aero bar, obviously that'd take time but yeah

180sx front end conversion with type x front bumper go!

Posted by: _RX7 _ Aug 17 2012, 09:49 AM

nope, just bought myself a pair of brick headlights. Cost me a f**king mint though haha.

New bricks in place best 400 i ever spent on the thing

Posted by: nhra1625 Aug 20 2012, 06:17 AM

THOSE ARE THE HEADLIGHTS THAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT

yeeeeeeee

Posted by: _RX7 _ Aug 20 2012, 01:43 PM

Haha yeah man, I'm also thinking of getting the clear lenses like on the one you posted.

Posted by: M.I.V. Design. Aug 20 2012, 02:43 PM

what color will you be painting it?

Posted by: PurePontiacKid Aug 21 2012, 04:01 AM

the better question is when will you be lowering it

Posted by: _RX7 _ Aug 21 2012, 06:51 AM

@ Ivan, for now it will be staying the same colour, but in the long run i thinking of going a purple similar to this.

@ Ian, its already lowish, scrapes on just about anything i try to roll over. but will be going a bit lower once the new shoes go on and i can get it all sitting nicley.

Posted by: PurePontiacKid Aug 21 2012, 10:40 PM

this is why you don't roll over things

Posted by: DLuZive Aug 21 2012, 11:25 PM

yeah tim you're smarter than this

Posted by: _RX7 _ Aug 22 2012, 12:29 AM

Sorry guys how could I. I'm so stupid I mean having a daily driver that I drive over speed bumps and into driveways and stuff.

Posted by: PurePontiacKid Aug 22 2012, 12:34 AM

road conditions are no excuse.

Posted by: Billyz. Aug 22 2012, 12:49 AM

lower it or god will.

Posted by: _RX7 _ Aug 22 2012, 01:22 AM

It will go lower. But a practical low.

Posted by: Unox. Aug 22 2012, 01:33 AM

practical? that means only scraping on lane markers, right?

<3

Posted by: Helmasaur King Aug 22 2012, 01:41 AM

ey man . . .gota get a dutch maste paint job . . .. gonna be great

Posted by: _RX7 _ Aug 22 2012, 09:03 AM

Line markers??? Rio what you on, im talking about only scraping on the paint on the road.

Posted by: Mkid Aug 22 2012, 04:52 PM

I consider myself practically low. I sometimes scrape on my driveway and those unavoidable pointy speedbumps (god I hate the pointy ones) and my rear tires rub occasionally.

Posted by: _RX7 _ Aug 23 2012, 08:47 AM

Yeah, i can deal with that sort of low smile2.gif

Posted by: Mkid Aug 23 2012, 05:01 PM

Then you can go lower, cuz I'm pretty sure I'm lower than you toung.gif

Posted by: _RX7 _ Aug 23 2012, 10:43 PM

Yeah you probably are, the plan is to go lower. But I'm going to wait for the new shoes, I can't be bothered to adjust it all now then have to readjust it all again when I get them.

Posted by: nhra1625 Aug 23 2012, 11:08 PM

get an expensive drift kit and slam it down til the kit hits the ground. then buy shoes...no...work boots

Posted by: Unox. Aug 23 2012, 11:22 PM

get 3 or 4 sets of the same knockoff kit**

slam it till it touches the ground

buy rims that are too wide

buy tires that aren't wide enough

make it fit

wub.gif

Posted by: nhra1625 Aug 23 2012, 11:51 PM

like in his avvi

Posted by: _RX7 _ Aug 24 2012, 12:18 AM

Well I'm putting 9s on the front and people tend to stop at about 9.5 so they are quite wide.

@rio how dare you even mention knock offs in the same breathe as my car. There will be no fake s**t in this build haha.

Posted by: PurePontiacKid Aug 24 2012, 12:37 AM

aero doesn't matter if it's "legit" or not, it's going to get smashed one way or another.

Rear 5 stud is done smile2.gif was super easy once we knew what were were doing.

Also most of the way through the front now, just need to get my lower control arms back tmoz with new bushes in them and then i can piece it all back together and then set the brakes up smile2.gif

ooooo nice

Posted by: _RX7 _ Sep 10 2012, 10:44 AM

Car is all sorted out now, the boost/ performance under load issue is solved. Tunrs out one of my coil packs was a bit dogey and final shat itself the other day.

Full new set on the way.

Also made up my mind on getting a Hybrid FMIC kit and going to be running 550cc injectors with and upgrade to either a bosch 040 in tanks of an aeromotive stealth 340lph pump and a tomei adjustable fuel reg.

So its all coming together very slowly smile2.gif

so a coilpack goes... that means my best aproach to fixing the issue would be an rb swap? You so silly.

nah not gonna rb swap it, thing is fine the way it is. New set of coilpacks have been ordered and i have a spare one in while i wait.

I'm going to fit them sarvo, I think I'll most likely need to space them a bit. The fronts deffinatly, I don't think the offset is low enough to clear my coilovers.

Still buying the gram lights, just bought these because they were a decent looking wheel at a really good price.

Is he from Florida?

He's from Vegas/Chicago.

Mr. Herron is one beast dude. He wrote on my car :B

also, his old wheels were that color, but were Battles.

Posted by: _RX7 _ Oct 17 2012, 10:52 AM

Lol adrian, i just wanna run a single intank pump, no need for a surge and a whole fuel setup like that. Btw sold the wheels and will now be purchasing a set of Work Emotion xd.gif9's 17x8.5 up front and 17x9.5 in the rear.

The wheels will still be staying white.

Paint is all done smile2.gif and smoked tails are in.

Next week on my days off i will be doing and oil change and chucking the brand new rocker cover on smile2.gif

Also finally it has happened, i have purchased myself a full plastic OEM factory option aero kit toung.gif

Pics when it arrives.

s14 wing n kouki sides, i guarantee u will get baller status

Posted by: nhra1625 Nov 7 2012, 05:45 AM

Personally I feel like an aggressive stance with some decent poke and not a lot of camber would look beast on this. It won't be too low and you would have some meat for tires so it would be different and still drivable.

That's just my thought

Oh...and...full rocket bunny kit. GOGOGOGOGOGO

Edit: like so...

Posted by: _RX7 _ Mar 20 2013, 11:37 AM

Cheers guys. At the more low comments, I need to do some work in the front wheel wells before it physicly can go any lower. There is a fold of metal that at the current height during harsh cornering scores the tyre and I also ned ot relocate the looms from under the arch and run them through the gap between then guard and the chassis.

Posted by: Nick47 Mar 20 2013, 01:06 PM

your wheels are too big

I kid, I love your car bud. looking really good

Posted by: nhra1625 Mar 21 2013, 02:40 AM

i rolled my shop teachers fenders the other day for him lol.he was scared of doing it. i have to mod his fender liners so when he lowers it a little he wont have issues.

Posted by: _RX7 _ Mar 24 2013, 12:51 AM

Nothing wrong with wheel or tyre size, the rolling diameter is the same as stock... therefore the cops cant say s**t. The issue is like all s13's under both fenders you have the looms and a metal lip that both have to be sorted before going really low.

The metal lip will score the tyres if i go any low before getting it sorted and the looms need to be relocated for you end up ripping them apart.

Exhibit A:

Posted by: Madset. Mar 24 2013, 02:06 AM

lol damn
alot of work for a few sparks

Posted by: _Kevin_ Mar 25 2013, 01:10 AM

My corolla has that lip too. I've gone through 2 sets of tires cause it's cut through.

Are the fender crumple zones near the lips? mine are right above it in the wheel well so I can't roll the fender to smooth it out.

Posted by: _RX7 _ Mar 25 2013, 03:08 AM

Basicly you have the strut towers and the sort of I guess rails that run from the firewall out to the rad that the the fender bolts to. Anyways on the underside of them is the little lip that needs to be sorted.

No idea what its even there for, tbh it looks like its just unfinished haha.

Posted by: _Kevin_ Mar 25 2013, 03:13 AM

I gotcha haha just lazyness on the manufacturers end

Posted by: _RX7 _ Mar 25 2013, 03:21 AM

Yeah it appears that way, I just wanna work out the best way to deal with it... whether that be grinding it flat... or beating the s**t out of it with a hammer.

Then of course the loom relocation, that bit looks straight forward.

Posted by: _Kevin_ Mar 25 2013, 03:31 AM

just do it the right way lol no short cuts. Dont be like the other 240 beaters. I have a lot more respect for your car than others. I'd grind it or press it.

but of course I'm preaching to the choir. toung.gif

Posted by: _RX7 _ Mar 25 2013, 03:59 AM

Yeah mate, thats the one thing I said going in to this build. Do it Right, do it once. Easy as that.

Posted by: J.red Mar 25 2013, 11:00 AM

where is the tab you're talking about?

Posted by: _RX7 _ Mar 25 2013, 11:50 AM

Under where that loom runs along the underside. But its on the other side of the loom, I should have taken a photo today while I had the wheels off to show you. Maybe tmoz...

Posted by: _RX7 _ Mar 25 2013, 12:04 PM

Here is a pic of the ridge im talking about that someone has gone to town on... obviously I'll sort mine a bit nicer.

Found the pic in a really really really interesting thread on this exact matter. Link for anyone interested, http://zilvia.net/f/tech-talk/125350-tucking-s13-wiring-harness.html

Posted by: J.red Mar 25 2013, 10:19 PM

It's hard to tell from that picture. it's a little blurry, but if it's the seam where the pieces of the frame come together at, you don't want to cut it off.

Posted by: _RX7 _ Mar 26 2013, 04:47 AM

Yeah I've already dicided on bending it up.

Max your coils. Do it like the FD bros and just run the harness on top of the upper fender wall and zip tie that s**t down so it doesn't go anywhere, hopefully you ripped out all the plastic s**t already. Don't worry about rubbing or anything, that just lets you know you're doing it right.

Also lip + skirts and valences would be awesome on your car, oem is sweet.

I'm blabbing

Posted by: Brand0n May 23 2013, 09:23 AM

disregard what I just said about oem aero, just read page 9

Posted by: _RX7 _ May 23 2013, 09:23 AM

^ inner fender is already worked out, just need to bash the seam flat (Maybe a little more care than that) then move the harness like in this link.

http://www.trk-dv.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=118

Then the kit I have a full OEM aero kit waiting to be painted. Looks like this and is made of stock plastic so its strong smile2.gif
