Pixel Car Art _ Automotive chat _ Christina's 1982 Ford Cortina Mk5

Posted by: DMC-12 Apr 30 2014, 12:57 PM

Howdy all toothygrin.gif I finally have my baby <3

She's a 1982 Ford Cortina 1.6 Crusader, better known to you Europeans as a Ford Taunus TC3. Never been welded, rustproofed from new (which never normally works), so there's only a few bubbles in various areas to take care of. Engine wise, pretty standard apart from the weber 32dgr carb and high lift cam. It's faster than most people's 2.0 Cortinas toothygrin.gif Here have some piccies:

First order of business was to change the plates, got some nice pressed aluminium ones made up and I refurbished my badges:

So, plans for her? Nothing too drastic, lose some of the altitude, nice wheels, 4-2-1 manifold, and find a rev counter.

I've got a set of capri laser RS4 wheels too, not sure what look I want with them yet as they need refurbishing. Unsure whether to go diamond cut or just powder coated original silver. They're arriving tonight I'll get pics when they do. Also spotlight brackets are coming tonight so hopefully I can have the spots back on her toothygrin.gif

Oh, it looks nice. Yeah, those modifications will be enough for it.
Btw, did you sell your fiestur?

Posted by: DMC-12 Apr 30 2014, 01:10 PM

Nope the fiesta is still here. She blew the sump gasket which is a pain in the tits, really hard to find them for the 1.0. So I might have to sell her as spares sad.gif

Very cool! Congrats on your new car! Looks good, nice condition, seems there is no much rust.

But who is Christina?

Posted by: DMC-12 Apr 30 2014, 01:19 PM

Um, me?...

Yes Yes they're the spotlights I'm putting on tonight hopefully. I'd so love an XR6 gasp.gif

Also in that pic are the wheels I'm getting. But mine are deeper dish.

nice one, except for the hood

Posted by: Ben.H May 1 2014, 02:03 AM

I can dig it

How much did you pay? Looks to be in really good condition, if I were you I'd have the wheels diamond cut, would look good against the red.

Posted by: DMC-12 May 1 2014, 10:07 AM

Yeah I was thinking that, but apparently the lacquer they use over diamond cut finishes doesn't last at all, and it'll be my daily driver so I don't want f**ked up wheels that quick :/ Paid £1200 for her smile2.gif

Oh and the black bonnet is because the paint shop screwed up the original one when the previous owner (my uncle) had them spray the bonnet and boot. They didn't use enough hardener in the paint, even on the boot you can see it it's pretty bad.

£1200 for a good condition Cortina? Winning if you ask me

Posted by: Kubason May 1 2014, 03:13 PM

yeah, the hood would look cool if it wasn't matte
are you planning to somehow take care of the hood?

Posted by: DMC-12 May 2 2014, 01:04 AM

Yeah I have the red one too, I just need to get it painted properly, but as the paint didn't harden fully it'll be a pain in the arse to remove the paint so It'll have to get sandblasted or something.

Wheels! Look at all that tyre ;D

I'm thinking a 2" drop would look pretty awesome.

And here have a decent front view showing the colour nicely. And the local triumph man who's just round the corner.

Use some brake fluid/aircraft remover to remove that old paint on that hood and boot ;D

Posted by: big trick daddy andy May 2 2014, 03:41 AM

aircraft paint remover is really toxic and should be handled with care

try brake fluid instead

Posted by: DMC-12 May 2 2014, 12:36 PM

Brake fluid works but it would need a container or something or nothing will ever grow again outside. Also it still has original good paint on the underside and I don't want to risk taking that off. so I could just get the top surface blasted.
