Pixel Car Art _ Automotive chat _ W. Lundbergs BMW E36 320i '97

Posted by: W. Lundberg Dec 25 2013, 10:17 PM

Hey all happy PCA people!

I bought this 320i last Thursday (19th Dec). Checked it out, went down in price and drove it home after about one hour.
The car has a very good interior but I don't like the super old Pioneer stereo, maybe gonna change if I find a cheap one.
On the exterior there quite a lot surface rust, also on some strange spots like on the middle of the trunk. Otherwise it's quite nice in the paint (Montrealblau), just needs a bit of polish smile2.gif

Plans at the moment:
Rims - Check
Cheap Coils -
Stereo -
Rust fixing -
Polish -
Front indicators, side indicators and taillights -
Leather seats if there's some cheap ones -
Muffler with two endings -

19th Dec - Some crappy photos just after we got home.

24th Dec - Bought some nice Alpina wheels as a Christmas gift for myself smile2.gif

Need proper lowering so he look good! smile2.gif

I'm not going to update that often unfortunately because I'm only a student (poor) and I'm out of the country 27th Dec to 5th Jan.

I hate these, good luck!

Lol nah they're cool, a little finnicky though smile2.gif

Posted by: W. Lundberg Dec 25 2013, 10:24 PM

Haha toothygrin.gif
Thx but what's finnicky? toothygrin.gif

Posted by: JoviBlue Dec 25 2013, 10:28 PM

Sick man, not a huge fan on some bimmers but this is sweet, needs some low and more track width toung.gif but sick man

Posted by: W. Lundberg Dec 25 2013, 10:30 PM

Thx mate smile2.gif
With track width you mean less offset/ET? More poke? toothygrin.gif
Naah what it really needs is a shower toothygrin.gif

this

sweet ride mah n***a, looking forward to seeing more done to it! toothygrin.gif
(if you are going to do s**t to it ofc)
nvm that, I see what you are planning on. on the exhaust, dont get a fart cannon, try and get a factory exhaust and some chrome aftermarket tips smile2.gif

Posted by: W. Lundberg Dec 25 2013, 11:05 PM

More low is coming wink.gif
You can see the list of stuff I'm going to do wink.gif

Posted by: Madset. Dec 26 2013, 12:24 AM

Front fitment is nearly spot on already lol

rear fitment not so much, needs spacers or somthing

Posted by: W. Lundberg Dec 26 2013, 12:28 AM

We'll see how it gets when it's lowered wink.gif Then I'll fix the last bits with spacers wink.gif

raw raspy straight pipe

Posted by: nhra1625 Dec 26 2013, 02:11 AM

if you want to go lower for little to no cost I would cut a coil out of the springs. Wouldnt go any more than that though. It should drop you about an inch. Did this to my cobalt until I get coilovers. Granted I cut 3 out haha

Posted by: RAD Dec 26 2013, 02:17 AM

It depends on if it was taken care of I guess. My friend's has random weird little issues a lot usually with oil, electrical, and lots of suspension problems. Replace all the bushings in the suspension if you ever have the chance wink.gif Only use OEM or OEM replicas though unless you're planning on upgrading.

Posted by: Madset. Dec 26 2013, 04:13 AM

dont cut your springs thats stupid

Posted by: W. Lundberg Dec 26 2013, 08:29 AM

Yeah cutting springs is stupid, I'm going for some cheap coilovers I found smile2.gif
Thanks for the comments smile2.gif

Posted by: Myca Dec 26 2013, 08:59 AM

Nice car, pretty good condition. Alpina front lip would look good on it. Dunno, does it fit or not. Rust fixing must be first at to-do list.

About coilovers. Cheapest i've seen is TA-Technik. Box says "Made in Germany" but it's really made in China, so i read few bad reviews and few positive feedbacks. Look for XYZ, it's made in Taiwan, imo it's best money/quality offer. Or made coilevers youself, its not difficult.

Posted by: W. Lundberg Dec 26 2013, 09:21 AM

Problem is that I want the real s**t and not fake, so about the Alpina lip... Naah toothygrin.gif Too expensive and I'm probably going to snowdrift etc. But yeah it would look good wink.gif

I found some very cheap coilovers which should be better quality than TA etc. for £185 / $303 wink.gif

Posted by: W. Lundberg Dec 26 2013, 01:34 PM

Update!

Cleaned the exterior of the car for the first time today and changed the windscreen wipers smile2.gif
Also cleaned a little in the engine bay, not much to say smile2.gif

Tower -.-

Even bigger tower -.-

That's all for today, cheers smile2.gif

Posted by: Myca Dec 26 2013, 01:42 PM

How you cleaned engine bay? Mine is dirty as hell

Posted by: W. Lundberg Dec 26 2013, 01:46 PM

I just sprayed the hell on it with Turtle Wax engine bay cleaning, waited 2 minutes and then washed everything off with water wink.gif
Worked really good smile2.gif

Posted by: Myca Dec 26 2013, 02:52 PM

Need to do the same. Washed bay 1 time for all 5 year lol

Awesome car!
If I was you, I wouldn't lower it too much, I think it's perfect how you PS'd it. You could maybe put on the OEM M-Package, then it will be perfect!

But again, very nice car!

Posted by: W. Lundberg Dec 26 2013, 10:50 PM

Thanks smile2.gif
I want to lower the front, rear is quite good. I'm thinking of the M-Package but the real one is too expensive for me :/

Posted by: nhra1625 Dec 26 2013, 11:46 PM

yes it is a coupe. but you shall sdo this and be happy. The only thing i shall let you skip is the ls swap. got it? good.

Woo, another BMW guy. I really envy those Alpinas hah... They'd probably sit perfectly on mine, as they're also 5x120.

The bimmer is looking clean tho wink.gif

BTW what's the fuel economy on that. I have M50B25 and it's like between 8 and 12... I wonder how much more economic that M50B20 is toung.gif

VANOS just kicked in yo! Or not? Weight reduction would help if 150hp is not enough for you.

Posted by: W. Lundberg Dec 27 2013, 10:20 AM

Yeah single Vanos smile2.gif I don't want to remove rear seats, carpets etc. I want it to be a fully normal car except for the ''stance''. When I moved the car an hour ago i noticed that the front wheels roll against the inner wheel wells toothygrin.gif Me so happy! toothygrin.gif

Ahh so it's basically 8,5 to 100km, so not so big difference... Therefore get m50b25... toothygrin.gif

But yeah, the sound on that is soo sweet when it gets past 4000 rpm. I remember when I took my car to the racetrack, I used to delay braking at the main straight just because I could hear the engine revs longer toothygrin.gif

Posted by: uiui Dec 28 2013, 10:56 AM

Car looks very nice its better one than ours lol

Posted by: W. Lundberg Jan 3 2014, 06:56 PM

Sorry for being inactive, I'm in France at the moment on holidays.
I'll be home at 5th Jan and will buy white indicators for front and sides smile2.gif

Posted by: Henrique. Jan 4 2014, 12:12 PM

If you're putting white indicators on front you must get rid of the amber on the rear too. Which I think it's a mistake, looks damn good like that

Posted by: W. Lundberg Jan 5 2014, 03:54 AM

I think that the orange lights look alright but the white will give the car a much newer look, almost a tiny facelift. I've found very cheap indicators for front and sides and will try those first. If it looks good I'll go for some other tail lights.

Posted by: Madset. Jan 5 2014, 07:56 AM

And then boso pipes

Posted by: W. Lundberg Jan 5 2014, 01:42 PM

Naah I'm thinking of this muffler later on wink.gif

Posted by: Kubason Jan 5 2014, 01:57 PM

nooo, don't put this muffler on it, it's ugly sad.gif
besides, every second E36 owner has it

Posted by: Sir KV Jan 5 2014, 02:00 PM

just get an M exhaust

Posted by: W. Lundberg Jan 5 2014, 04:19 PM

Well I'm low on cash and this muffler looks nice. Plus it's cheap.

How's this?

Posted by: Kubason Jan 5 2014, 04:24 PM

yeah, that one looks good
also, if you are low on cash, don't rush on buying a muffler, it's better to wait until you can afford some of better quality

Posted by: Sir KV Jan 5 2014, 04:28 PM

yeah that is better, upswept exhausts look retarded anyway

Posted by: W. Lundberg Jan 5 2014, 06:53 PM

I agree Kubason wink.gif
I wont buy the muffler now but I will later, even if it isn't the best quality.
However, I just ordered the front and side indicators smile2.gif

Posted by: W. Lundberg Jan 6 2014, 07:30 PM

Double post FTW!

These:

Or these:

I think I'm going for the black tinted instead of white. Why? It's a dark color car and I'm going to spray the grill black.

Posted by: Daniel. Jan 6 2014, 07:41 PM

yeah go for the dark ones

Posted by: Henrique. Jan 6 2014, 09:20 PM

buy some with less "altezza" look on it. I mean, without the smooth lens. Those are really riced up

more like this

less like this

Posted by: W. Lundberg Jan 6 2014, 09:48 PM

I don't like the stock look :/ Looks dirty :/
And the second ones you linked are much uglier than the ones I want toothygrin.gif

Posted by: Kubason Jan 6 2014, 10:04 PM

well then try to find some dark front and side indicators as well, so they match together

Posted by: W. Lundberg Jan 6 2014, 11:48 PM

Yeah I was also thinking that wink.gif
But since normal white ones were MUCH cheaper I'm going for smoke film wink.gif

Posted by: Henrique. Jan 7 2014, 10:27 AM

You gonna ruin the car with those smoke whatever stuff sad.gif

Posted by: W. Lundberg Jan 7 2014, 11:07 AM

It's just a film which is removable later on if I don't like it

Posted by: W. Lundberg Jan 8 2014, 06:36 PM

God I love Ebay. Found really nice headlights (angel eyes) incl. indicators + really nice taillights in Sweden, $430. Found the exact same stuff (same brands and everything) on Ebay.de for $231... wub.gif

Posted by: Sir KV Jan 8 2014, 06:52 PM

awesome doe, a find like that is cool, now lets hope the actually work xd.gif

Posted by: W. Lundberg Jan 8 2014, 06:59 PM

The lights are brand new from good german shops smile2.gif So yes, they should work. I read a review on one of the shops (http://www.ad-tuning.de) and everyone said that it was great service, a lot of products (which is very true), everything was working and it was good quality.
Unfortunately I wont buy these now. I have to wait a little because of the money -.-
But my birthday is soon (March 16th), so I'll hopefully get the lights then toothygrin.gif

Posted by: W. Lundberg Jan 9 2014, 06:59 PM

Got my clear indicators yesterday and started installing them today, but of course the rain stopped me from installing the front indicators. But the side indicators is installed and works properly. No, we don't have a garage big enough to even open the doors inside of it, if it isn't a Mini toung.gif
Aaaaand because of the rain there's no pics...

Posted by: W. Lundberg Jan 10 2014, 03:29 PM

Went out today and started the change of indicators. First indicator (left) went superb. Took of the indicator house very easy, took off the lamp, tried to install the new orange lamp which of course didn't fit... The guy at my local car store said that it would fit, but nope. Installed the original clear lamp and the new clear house for now. White indicators FTW!
When I took of the house and started installing the white house the lamp wont fit because of burrs in the plastic. Now walk into the workshop (like ''What up?! I got a big c**k!''), start the dremel, perfect. Starting to install the house but of course, it doesn't snap to place. It doesn't fit to 100% either, but what the hell, it's China s**t -.-

Plus in the future I'm going to buy the angeleyes I talked about in some of the posts before.

Posted by: Noodles Jan 12 2014, 02:55 AM

dont rice it out too much lol

Posted by: Sir Cub Jan 12 2014, 04:18 AM

I have a suggestion, I like my cars how I like them, no person can tell me other wise, if you like the modifications you're going to make to your car then be happy, it's your car build it how you want to build it. If it makes you happy, then do what you'd like. You can put it on 28" billet wheels, I might not like it but if you're happy, then that's all that matters smile2.gif

Posted by: W. Lundberg Jan 12 2014, 10:58 AM

I've cleaned the engine bay, again. Much better this time. I've also removed the ugly, dirty and scabby bonnet mat smile2.gif

I turn 18 in 16 days and I'm hoping to get some cheap ass coils or new lights around the car. When I get my driving license I'll get a job and therefor more updates smile2.gif

Not done that much, just checked how the brake disks and brake pads are feeling smile2.gif
Btw, the disks are rusty because I don't drive the car atm, no driving license = no driving sad.gif

Brushed the wheelhub

I'm thinking of painting the calipers black or montrealblau like the car smile2.gif

The bolts to the calipers, before after

Greased the bolts

Greased the whatever it's called in english, the brake pads should slide smooth now smile2.gif

I've got the final writing and driving test on the 18th, I hope I'll get my license toothygrin.gif

Posted by: W. Lundberg Mar 7 2014, 07:26 PM

Yeh, but you forgot to clean them, with rust like that brake dust and other gunk can get dug down in the uneven surface that the rust creates and might increase the chance to having dragging brakes.

Posted by: Doriftoman Mar 16 2014, 05:20 PM

If you start driving it, remember to make some long and hard brakes, after a few of those, they should be decent again. But yeah, not driving makes things worse. I'd suggest lending it to your parents or relatives to drive, while you get your licenses.

On another tone, the goodies seem nice toung.gif

Posted by: W. Lundberg Mar 16 2014, 05:21 PM

Coilover Update!

Yesterday and today I mounted my new shiny coilovers toothygrin.gif Not much to say, just some pics wink.gif

Wheel off and disassemble the bolts holding the shock absorber
I need to fix the rust rolleyes.gif

Gone!

Old s**t!

New s**t!

Next step is the ass! toothygrin.gif

Posted by: Doriftoman Apr 1 2014, 09:45 PM

Looking nice. The Alpinas without the center caps look like Style 32 haha. Anyways I like where this is heading. Wish I had such free money to toss around on coilovers and Alpinas toung.gif

Posted by: Noodles Apr 3 2014, 04:25 AM

those wheels look better with out the center caps haha

Posted by: W. Lundberg Apr 4 2014, 01:49 PM

I'm going to mount the rear shocks and springs tonight, first car meet tomorrow toothygrin.gif
Also, I ordered new tires yesterday, 205/35 instead of 235/40 smile2.gif

Posted by: big trick daddy andy Apr 4 2014, 07:43 PM

nice, the front sits nice

Posted by: W. Lundberg Apr 8 2014, 09:06 PM

Sorry for being unactive the last days :/
I've lowered the ass and I'm quite happy, my tires havn't arrived yet so it doesn't sit like I want to.
I'll take all the pics in order, I've taken all the pics with my phone so it's quite crappy quality sad.gif

But first this:

Yup, this china s**t flew away doing 195km/h / 120 mp/h (on a closed road ofc...) with a bang and left a small dent on the wheel well. The bang was so big so I got super scared and thought it was the coilover thumbup.gif
Back with the orange ones...

Not much to say, you get the idea. Don't look at the rust...

Master at parking, 1cm to go smile2.gif

Lowered rear, left side took about 10 mins with a friend helping
Right side took about 1.5 hours because old rubber s**t -.-
It sits quite good now but it'll be lower laugh.gif
DON'T LOOK AT THE RUST!

Found this on FB from the meet
The black stuff hanging under the car is ''mudflaps'' which will be destroyed

Me in the front, looks good from a distance toothygrin.gif

Then this!!! dash2.gif
The old rubber on the left side this time gave up after 17 years of hard work.
So I went to the local shop and bought some new ones from Sachs smile2.gif

Old rubber all smashed up

New rubber sits nice smile2.gif

And last

Everyone with a lowered car should show it on their tires, not much but it's something rolleyes.gif

Posted by: Sir KV Apr 23 2014, 05:12 PM

wow its coming along very nice, maybe you should consider getting an M3 front bumper or something, it still looks a bit plain now imo. smile2.gif

Posted by: W. Lundberg Apr 23 2014, 07:26 PM

Thank you very much smile2.gif
I'm thinking of both M3 front and rear bumpers wink.gif

Posted by: Doriftoman Apr 27 2014, 09:20 PM

IMO the M3 bumpers seem so generic and boring. A better alternative IMO would be an AC Schnitzer replica/stock bumper like this:

Also an Alpina lip would suit your rims quite nicely wink.gif

Also a nice comparison. For me the stock bumper with an added lip seems more classy toung.gif

Posted by: W. Lundberg Apr 28 2014, 03:22 PM

Wow, I've never seen that AC Schnitzer bumper before
Looks really cool!

Posted by: W. Lundberg May 18 2014, 09:34 PM

It has been raining all day long, so what to do?
You mount your steelies with 185 tires and 3bar/43.5psi and drive smile2.gif

Went really good until this happend...

Luckily the car is just like before and no one got hurt, so after beeing pulled out of the mud I continued drifting toothygrin.gif
I'll upload a video of how it went after the offroad driving smile2.gif

Posted by: Doriftoman May 20 2014, 10:59 AM

You should really learn more in parking lots and on closed roads or race tracks before. These things won't usually end nicely...

Posted by: Jak920 May 20 2014, 11:27 AM

Yea, I wanna see this car progress further, not wrapped around a pole.

Posted by: W. Lundberg May 20 2014, 09:53 PM

I have experience of driving and controling the car, this ''crash'' happend because I had a tiny bit too much speed into the corner and that can happen to anyone. I have practiced quite a lot on parking lots and with gocart in wet (I know it's not really the same, it's actually harder but the same basics) on track. I were supposed to get the video from my friend today but I didn't, I'll link it here as soon it's up on Youtube smile2.gif

Posted by: Vicent M. May 22 2014, 01:48 PM

sweet coilovers, I dont know the name but these are pretty cool cause you can adjust the height I think

The video is up on Youtube and you can see it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=keRdr1GbHi0 smile2.gif

which wheels, your boring and stupid bbs?

looks pretty cool atm, if you are going for trackdays, some TSW Evo like this

Posted by: W. Lundberg May 29 2014, 05:10 PM

It's real BBS Style 5 on the R-tires. 10 tires, 8 BBS's smile2.gif

Posted by: klucifers May 29 2014, 06:46 PM

you know that stye 5 are on 5 screws, right. my brother right now making ones on 4, but thats other story. And by rims l thoght anything with more offset,

And what the f**k is wrong with bbs's.
Or another alpinas

Posted by: W. Lundberg May 29 2014, 07:24 PM

Well it's those classic BBS's that looks like Style 5's wink.gif

Posted by: Doriftoman May 29 2014, 08:47 PM

Style 5's come in 4x100 aswell. Style 5 was offered 4x100 r15 also 5x120 r15,r16,r17...

I've owned a few 15 inch ones, they are just perfect...

Anyways congrats on the E30. I've just sold my E34 and looking for a decent e30 shell myself toung.gif

Posted by: W. Lundberg May 29 2014, 09:42 PM

Yeah these ones are R15x7, one set alloy and one set black smile2.gif
Trackday saturday and sunday so I'll upload some pics when it's on the BBS's smile2.gif

Posted by: Vicent M. May 29 2014, 09:57 PM

you still can add spacers from 4x100 to 5x114 for example

Posted by: W. Lundberg May 29 2014, 10:17 PM

But I lose grip if I mount spacers and it's a track car, not a show car wink.gif

Posted by: Noodles May 30 2014, 06:04 AM

watanabes would look cool

Posted by: Nikola May 30 2014, 08:21 AM

Nice purchase! On the topic of wheels, some Hayashi Street rims in 14 inch size would look awesome on an E30.

Posted by: W. Lundberg May 30 2014, 09:46 AM

Thanks Nikola smile2.gif
Yeah both Watanabes and Hayashi Street would look cool but the money is going for other stuff atm and the BBS's are LOVELY! toothygrin.gif

Vicent pls. Stay out of BMW topics. You no good at them lol... Why would you want 5x114 if there are loads more 4x100 rims that are cheaper, easier to find, easier to mount and probably look tons better aswell...

Posted by: Curtis Jun 4 2014, 09:30 PM

Vincent, you're being a f**king tool. Kindly stfu until you have something constructive to say.

But now I'm free for 20 minutes so I'll upload two trackday pics on the E30, I'll start an E30 topic when the E30 project really starts smile2.gif

Well to answer your comment, I will buy an E46 as soon as possible, hopefully next year wink.gif

Posted by: Doriftoman Jul 9 2014, 10:23 PM

E30 looks mint for track use. I love the white-black combo on it wink.gif

Posted by: Oldsko Jul 9 2014, 11:30 PM

Your e30 looks just amazing, I'm not a fan of BMW, but i really like your.

Posted by: W. Lundberg Nov 6 2014, 06:35 PM

Wow wow, long time no see smile2.gif

Not much done to the E36 lately, but new plans for it.
Since I made a street pole fly 5 meters with my E36 and my diff didn't like the burnouts/drifts I'll make this some sort of euro driftmissile. Why missile?
It got loads of rust (i hate sweden for this!).
Couple of weeks ago I drifted into a street pole, nothing big on the car tbh.
My diff said boom last week... I tried to weld it but the boom were to big :/

Well.. I got a new diff (318i diff for more revs), welded it and continued drifting smile2.gif smile2.gif smile2.gif
Some time later the left driveshaft said boom dash2.gif
I just found some E36 323i driveshafts at the junkyard (323i have the same shafts as the 328i which has the same length and width as the M3) which I'll order tomorrow. Hopefully these wont bang boom toothygrin.gif
After the winter I'll throw out all the interior and change som interior stuff like steeringwheel etc.

Bad phone pics alert!

New shifter smile2.gif

Yeah I guess :/
Thanks smile2.gif

I'll might change engine to a M50B25 (2.5l Inline 6) I got at home which has 192 stock bhp. It's already chipped so it maybe got 200-210bhp and there's really much tuning parts for it, turbo kits etc.

but looks rad with that pipe, I like what youre doing, any future ideas for fitment/wheels/kit though?

Posted by: W. Lundberg Nov 8 2014, 10:56 AM

No future ideas on the fitment side, all ''money'' is first going to the MOT and then engine and drift prep. If there's money left there'll be some fitment changes wink.gif
